Use the video and step-by-step drawing instructions below to learn how to draw Raven from DC Comics' Teen Titans. A new cartoon drawing tutorial is uploaded every week, so stay tooned!

 

 

Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.

 

Step 1: Start by drawing a circle near the top of the page. This will be the basic shape for the top of Raven's head. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It’s just a guide.

 

Step 2: On the bottom of the circle, draw a line as a guide for Raven's chin and jaw. The line should be pointy at the bottom and similar to a letter V with long ends that stretch toward the sides of the circle. The combined shapes form the guide for Raven's whole head.

 

Step 3: Under Raven's head, draw two curved lines for the neck. The lines should bend outward a bit to form the top part of the shoulders.

 

Step 4: Draw two long intersecting lines inside the head shape, one vertical and one horizontal. Bend the lines so that they contour to the shape of the head. These are construction lines that will help you place Raven's facial features later on.

 

Step 5: Draw two small shapes similar half circles as guides for Raven's eyes. Draw them sitting on top of the horizontal construction line and on either side of the vertical construction line.

Step 6: That’s it for the initial sketch! You have the basic shape of Raven from DC Comics' Teen Titans. Now go in and tighten your drawing. From this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.

 

Step 7: Use the initial half-circles as guides to draw the shape of Raven's eyes. Follow the basic path of the half-circles and slope the shape down a bit more as you darken the lines. Draw a thick pointy shape at the top and bottom of the eyes to represent the eyelashes.

 

Step 8: Inside each eye, draw another half-circle for Raven's irises. Inside each iris, draw a big dot for the pupils. On either side of each iris, draw a couple of curved lines to represent glare.

 

Step 9: Above each eye, draw a long, thick, pointy shape for Raven's eyebrows and shade it in. The eyebrows should slope down and in toward the vertical construction line.

 

Step 10: In between Raven's eyebrows, draw a small diamond shape. Under the section where the two construction lines intersect, draw a small triangle-like shape and shade it in for the nose.

Step 11: Right above the lower edge of the main circle, draw a thick line with pointed ends for Raven's mouth. Under the mouth and just below the lower edge of the main circle, draw a small line for Raven's bottom lip.

 

Step 12: Use the main circle as a guide to draw the side of Raven's face. Follow the basic path of the main circle as you darken the line to create the face and chin.

 

Step 13: Raven's hair is a bit tricky, so it's separated into two parts. First draw the front of the hair or the bangs. Draw two chunks of thin hair that start out at the vertical construction line, above the diamond shape. The chunks of hair then move up toward the top of the head in a V-like shape, and then come back down on the sides of the eyes. The hair strand on the right is a lot longer than the one on the left.

 

Step 14: Now draw the second part of Raven's hair. Draw the top part by using the main circle as a guide. Then draw the ends as sharp-edged lines under the head.

 

Step 15: Use the lines under the head as guides to draw Raven's neck. Darken the lines, and then draw a line across the neck for the top part of her costume.

Step 16 (optional): Raven wears a hood over her head most of the time. If you'd like, you can draw the hood draped over her shoulders. First draw a circle on the lower right side of the head that holds together Raven's cape and hood. Draw a smaller circle within the shape for the jewel inside. Now draw a series of curved lines that wrap around the neck from the jewel.

 

Step 17: That’s it! You now have a nice sketch of Raven from DC Comics' Teen Titans. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look or go for a more finished look by continuing to the step below.

 

Step 18: For a more finished, inked look, carefully draw over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for the ink to dry, and then get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser. You now have a finished inked drawing of Raven! You can stop here or go to the final step to complete your Raven drawing.

 

Final Step: For a completely finished Raven drawing, you have to color it. You can use markers, color pencils or even crayons! Raven's hair and eyes are purple. You can color a band of light purple across the top part of her hair to represent sheen. Her skin is light gray, and the diamond on her forehead is red. The hood is dark blue, and the top part of her costume is black. The jewel is yellow on the outside and black and red on the inside. That’s it! You now have a completed drawing of Raven from Teen Titans.
