The written step-by-step video tutorial:
Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.
Step 1: Start by drawing a circle at the top of the paper as a guide for Sylvester's head. First make four small marks to determine the circle's height and width. Then connect the marks using curved lines. Sketch lightly at first so that it's easy to erase if you make a mistake. If you're struggling to draw the circle, just trace the outer rim of a small, circular object like a coin or a bottle cap.
Step 2: Inside the head, draw a horizontal line as a guide to help you place this Looney Tunes character's facial features later. Place the line a bit higher than the middle. Curve it so that it contours to the circle. On the top, right, draw a short, curved, vertical line for another guide. On top of the head, draw two small, triangular shapes as guides for Sylvester's ears. The two shapes should be similar to the letter M.
Step 3: Below the head, use the four-marks method to draw a small circle as a guide for the top part of Sylvester's body. This circle should be smaller than the head. Don't draw it too far away from the head or the neck will be too long. Draw two short lines that connect the circles together and form the guide for this cartoon cat's neck.
Step 4: Below the top part of the body, draw a bigger circle as a guide for the lower half of the body. Draw this circle off to the left side a bit. This circle should be bigger than Sylvester's head. Pay attention to the space between the body circles. Don't draw them too close together. Draw two lines to connect the body circles and finish the guide for the torso.
Step 5: On the lower, left side of the body, draw a small, tilted oval as a guide for Sylvester's first hand. It's okay to overlap the body. Above the oval, draw a long, angled line as a guide for the arm. Curve the line at the top for the shoulder.
