The Narrated step-by-step video tutorial:
Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.
Step 1: Draw a big oval near the middle of the paper as a guide for Pichu's head. First make four marks to determine the oval's height and width. Then connect the marks using curved lines. Make sure that the marks for the sides of the oval (the width) are farther apart than the marks for the top and bottom (the height) of the oval. The oval should be tilted just a little bit so that the right side is lower. With every step, sketch lightly at first so that it's easy to erase if you make a mistake.
Step 2: Draw a horizontal line across the oval as a construction guide to help you place Pichu's facial features later. Draw a curved vertical line for another construction guide. The lines should tilt to the right a bit to follow the tilt of the head.
Step 3: On top of the head, draw two long, vertical lines as guides for Pichu's ears. Use the vertical line inside the head as a guide to help you place the lines for the ears. Draw the lines farther apart at the top. These lines should be very long in relation to the head.
Step 4: Under the head, draw an angled line that's similar to a square as a guide for Pichu's body. The shape for the body should be smaller than the head. First draw two curved, vertical lines for the sides and then close the shape at the bottom with a curved horizontal line.
Step 5: On either side of the body, draw a short, sloping line as guides for Pichu's arms. The line on the left should slope up, while the line on the right should slope down. Don't draw these lines too long.
Step 6: Under the body, draw two angled lines as guides for Pichu's feet. The sides of these lines should be longer than the width of the body. On the left side of the body, draw another angled line as a guide for the tail.
That's it for the guides! For the next steps, use darker lines for a more defined Pichu drawing.
Step 7: Inside the head, draw two small ovals for Pichu's eyes. Place the eyes directly on top of the horizontal construction line and on either side of the vertical construction line. Below the horizontal construction line, draw a curved shape similar to the letter D on its side for the open mouth.
Step 8: Inside each eye, near the top, draw a small circle for highlights. Directly on top of where the construction lines meet, draw a tiny triangle and shade it in for Pichu's nose. Inside the open mouth, draw a curved line for the tongue.
Step 9: Use the line on the top, left side of the head as a guide to draw Pichu's first ear. The shape of the ear should be similar to a diamond. The bottom part should be narrow, the middle should be wide and angular and the top should be thin and pointy.
Step 10: Use the line on the left as a guide to draw Pichu's other ear the same way. Make the bottom part narrow, the middle angular and the top thin and pointy. This ear should be tilted to the right a bit.
Step 11: Inside each of Pichu's ears, draw an angled line for the design. The pattern of the design should be similar to a long letter M with a short middle section.
Step 12: Darken the initial shape of the oval for Pichu's head. Don't darken the part of the oval that are next to the ears. Inside the head, on either side, draw a small oval for the cheeks.
Step 13: Use the lines on the sides of the body as guides to draw Pichu's arms. Follow the path of the lines and draw the shape of the arms around the guides. Draw a small arc on the top end of the arm on the left for the thumb. For the arm on the right, draw a small arc inside the arm near the tip for the thumb.
Step 14: Darken the lower part of the shape under the head for Pichu's body. Make the corners and sides rounder. Don't darken the parts of the arms that are next to the body. Directly under the head, draw a series of zigzag lines for the design on the neck.
Step 15: Use the lines under the body as guides to draw Pichu's feet. Darken the lines but then extend the shapes and curve the line upward to create the round tips of the feet.
Step 16: Darken the angled line on the left side of the body for Pichu's tail. Add an angled line under it to make the shape of the tail thicker. The tip of the tail should be wide and the base should be thin. Inside each foot, at the tips, draw a couple of short, curved lines to separate the toes.
Step 17: Go over the final sketch lines with a pen, marker or any other type of permanent ink. Take your time and be careful when you ink to avoid any accidents. After the ink dries, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser for a cleaner drawing of Pichu from Pokemon.
Final Step: Color your drawing using colored pencils, markers or crayons! On the bottom part of each eye, draw a shape that's similar to a crescent moon on it's side and color it brown. Color the rest of the eye black but don't overlap the highlight circles at the top. Use black for the tops of the ears, the pattern on the neck and the tail. Use yellow for the rest of the body. Use pink for the cheeks and tongue and dark brown for the inside of the mouth.
That's it! You know how a finished drawing of Pichu from Pokemon.
