Use the video and step-by-step drawing instructions below to learn how to draw Charmander from Pokemon. A new drawing tutorial is uploaded every week, so stay tooned!

Intro: When learning how to draw Charmander, start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don't press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.

Draw Charmander 1

Step 1: Start with a small circle near the top of the page. It doesn't have to be perfect. It's just a guide for Charmander's head. Leave enough room at the bottom for his body.

Draw Charmander 2

Step 2: Next, draw two intersecting lines across Charmander's head, one vertical and one horizontal. Bend the lines a bit so that they contour to the shape of the head. These will be construction lines that will help you place Charmander's facial features later on.

Draw Charmander 3

Step 3: Now draw the guides for Charmander's eyes. Draw them as two small shapes right above the horizontal construction line and on either side of the vertical line. The shape of these guides is essentially a tall arc with a line under it. The shape on the right should be a bit smaller because of perspective.

Draw Charmander 4

Step 4: Under Charmander's head, draw another circle that's just slightly bigger than the head. Draw two lines on either side of the circle to connect it to the head. This will be the guide for drawing Charmander's body.

Draw Charmander 5

Step 5: On either side of the body, draw two long arcs as guides for Charmander's arms. The arc on the left side should point down and be close to the body. The arc on the right should point up and away from the body.

Draw Charmander 6

Step 6: Under the body, draw two more shapes as guides for Charmander's feet. These shapes should also be arcs with lines under them, similar to the eyes but wider at the top.

Draw Charmander 7

Step 7: Draw two curved lines on the left side of the body as a guide for Charmander's tail. One of the lines starts at the guide for the arm and the other lines starts at the guide for the foot. The lines then curve up and come to a point to the left of the head.

Draw Charmander 8

Step 8: That’s it for the initial sketch! You have drawn the basic shape of Charmander from Pokemon. Now go in and tighten your drawing. From this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.

Draw Charmander 9

Step 9: Draw Charmander's eyes by darkening the edges of the initial shapes. Inside each eye, draw a line on the right side for the big irises. Draw an oval-like shape at the top of each to represent the glare in the eyes.

Draw Charmander 10

Step 10: Draw a bigger oval inside each eye and shade it in for Charmander's pupils. Above each eye, draw a small curved line for this Pokemon's brow.

Draw Charmander 11

Step 11: Use the horizontal construction line and the bottom of the original circle as guides to draw Charmander's open mouth. The line for the top art of the mouth is a bit wavy.

Draw Charmander 12

Step 12: Inside Charmander's mouth, draw four triangle-like shapes (two at the top and two at the bottom) for his teeth. Draw a couple of curved lines on the sides for the tongue. Above the mouth, draw a two tiny slits for the nostrils.

Draw Charmander 13

Step 13: Use the original circle as a guide to draw this Pokemon character's head. Follow the basic path of the circle as you darken the line. Make Charmander's head narrower when you get to the right side near the eye.

Draw Charmander 14

Step 14: Draw Charmander's arm on the left using the long arc as a guide. Darken the sides of the arc. At the bottom of the arc, draw three triangle-like shapes for the fingers.

Draw Charmander 15

Step 15: Use the shape on the lower left side as a guide to draw Charmander's leg and foot. Darken the lines and make the the shape narrower near the middle to distinguish the upper leg from the foot. Draw three diamond-like shapes at the bottom for Charmander's claws.

Draw Charmander 16

Step 16: Darken the lines of the initial shapes to create Charmander's body. The lines for the body shouldn't overlap the arm and foot on the left side. Draw a curved line inside Charmander's body for the color separation.

Draw Charmander 17

Step 17: Use the long arc on the right side as a guide to draw Charmander's arm. Only draw two triangle-like shapes at the tip of the hand and draw a third one inside the hand for a thumb-like digit.

Draw Charmander 18

Step 18: Draw Charmander's leg and foot on the right side by using the initial shape as a guide. This leg is positioned sideways, so make the front part longer. Draw the diamond-like shapes at the tip overlapping each other because of the foot's position.

Draw Charmander 19

Step 19: Darken the two lines that make up Charmander's tail and draw another curved line near the bottom for the color separation. At the tip of the tail, draw Charmander's flame. The flame consists of a curved line at the bottom and three wavy spikes of different sizes at the top.

Draw Charmander 20

Step 20: That’s it! You now have a nice sketch of Charmander from Pokemon. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look, or continue to the next step to go for a more finished look.

Draw Charmander 21

Step 21: For a more finished, inked look, carefully draw over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for the ink to dry, and then erase all of the pencil marks. You now have a finished inked drawing of Charmander! You can stop here or go to the final step to complete your Charmander drawing in its entirety.

Draw Charmander

Final Step: For a completely finished Charmander drawing, you have to color it. You can use anything you want: markers, color pencils or even crayons! The main color on Charmander's body is orange. The belly and the section under his tail are yellow. His eyes are dark blue, and his tongue is pink. The flame on his tail is red and yellow. That’s it! You now have a completed drawing of Charmander form Pokemon.
