Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.

Step 1: Start with a circle near the bottom of the page. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It’s just a guide for Bulbasaur's head. Leave enough room at the top for the rest of his body.

Step 2: Next, draw two intersecting lines across Bulbasaur's head, one vertical and one horizontal. Bend the lines a bit so that they contour to the shape of the head. These are construction lines that will help you place Bulbasaur's facial features later on.

Step 3: Draw two triangle-like shapes as guides for Bulbasaur's eyes. Draw them right on top of the horizontal construction line and on either side of the vertical construction line. The shape on the right should be a bit narrower because of perspective. The sides of the triangle-like shapes should bulge out and be curvier.

Step 4: Under the horizontal construction line, draw a shape similar to a sideways letter D as a guide for Bulbasaur's mouth. Use the bottom half of the circle as a guide to create the shape.

Step 5: Draw two more triangle-like shapes on top of the head as guides for Bulbasaur's ears. Make the sides bulge out so that they are curvier.

Step 6: On the lower left side of the head, draw a curved line as a guide for Bulbasaur's body. This curved line is similar to a circle with the top right side hidden behind the head. The size of this guide should be a bit bigger than the circle you drew for the head.

Step 7: Under the head, draw two arcs as guides for Bulbasaur's front feet. The arcs are similar to tilted letter U's.

Step 8: Draw a curved line on each side of the guide for the body as guides for Bulbasaur's hind feet. The line on the right should be shorter because it will be hiding behind the body.

Draw Bulbasaur 9

Step 9: On top of this Bulbasaur's body, draw another curved line as a guide for the plant bulb attached to the back. The shape of this guide is similar to an oval that's hiding behind this Pokemon's body.

Draw Bulbasaur 10

Step 10: Draw two long curved lines on top of the body as guides for Bulbasaur's vines. The vine on the left side should be drawn directly over the bulb. The vine on the right should be shorter because most of it is hiding behind the bulb.

Step 11: That’s it for the initial sketch! You have the basic shape of Bulbasaur from Pokemon. Now go in and tighten your drawing. From this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.

Step 12: Darken the triangle-like shapes inside the head to create Bulbasaur's eyes. Draw a small line on the side of each eye for the brow. Draw two tiny lines under the horizontal construction line and to the left of the vertical construction line for the nostrils.

Draw Bulbasaur 13

Step 13: Inside each eye, draw a curved line to represent the irises. Inside each iris, draw a small oval for the pupils. Don't shade in the pupils because Bulbasaur has white pupils.

Step 14: Use the sideways letter D shape under the horizontal construction line as a guide to draw Bulbasaur's mouth. Follow the basic path of the guide as you draw the mouth but give the top line a point near the middle. Draw two small triangle-like shapes on the top sides of the mouth for the teeth. Add a small curved line on the right side of the mouth for this Pokemon's tongue.

Step 15: Draw Bulbasaur's head and ears by using the initial shapes as guides. Follow the basic path of the shapes but make the right side of the face thinner at the top near the eyes. Then have it bulge out a bit at the bottom near the mouth to create the cheek.

Draw Bulbasaur 16

Step 16: Use the U-shaped lines under the head as guides to draw Bulbasaur's front feet. Darken the lines and make the bottom of the feet flatter. At the end of each foot, draw three small triangles for the claws.

Step 17: Darken the top and bottom parts of the initial oval shape to create Bulbasaur's body. Use the other lines under the body as guides to draw this Pokemon's hind feet. Darken the lines and at the end of each shape and draw the three triangle-like shapes for the claws.

Draw Bulbasaur 18

Step 18: Use the lines above the body as guides to draw Bulbasaur's vines. Follow the basic path of the guides and make the vines thicker. Make the end of each vine bigger and rounder with a shape similar to an oval. At the very tip of each vine, add a few lines for extra detail.

Draw Bulbasaur 19

Step 19: Draw the bulb on Bulbasaur's back by using the initial oval-like shape as a guide. The bulb can be divided into three parts. First draw the middle section as a couple of curved lines that come together with three spikes at the top. Then draw the sides of the bulb by using the initial shape as a guide. Have the sides come together at the top with a single spike.

Step 20: That’s it! You now have a nice sketch of Bulbasaur from Pokemon. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look, or continue to the next step to go for a more finished look.

Step 21: For a more finished, inked look, carefully draw over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for the ink to dry, and then erase all of the pencil marks. You now have a finished inked drawing of Bulbasaur! You can stop here or go to the final step to complete your Bulbasaur drawing in its entirety.

Final Step: For a completely finished Bulbasaur drawing, you have to color it. You can use anything you want: markers, color pencils or even crayons! First color in the patches on his body with blue-green. Add some patches on the head, body and legs. Don't overthink it. Just draw random shapes throughout the body. Color the rest of his skin light blue. His eyes are red, his tongue is pink, and the inside of his mouth is brown. The bulb on his back is yellow-green, and the vines are dark green. That’s it! You now have a completed drawing of Bulbasaur from Pokemon.
