To draw Casper step by step, follow along with the video tutorial below and pause the video after each step to go at your own pace. You may find it easier to follow the step-by-step drawings below. The new lines in each step are shown in red, and each step is explained in the text below the photo, so you'll know exactly what to draw in each step. You may want to open the video in a new tab and use both drawing methods! Take your time and draw at your own pace.

The Narrated step-by-step video tutorial:

Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.

Step 1: Draw a big circle near the top of the paper as a guide for Casper the friendly ghost's head. First make four marks to determine the oval's height and width. Then connect the marks using curved lines. Make the width of the circle a tiny bit longer than the height. Sketch lightly at first so that it's easy to erase if you make a mistake. Leave enough room at the bottom for the body.

Step 2: Below the circle, draw a curved line for the lower part of Casper's head. The curved part of the line should be on the left to form the cheek.

Step 3: Draw two curved, intersecting lines across the whole head as guides to help you place Casper's features later. Place the vertical line close to the left side of the head. Place the horizontal line close to the bottom edge of the first circle.

Step 4: On the lower, left side of the head, draw a small circle as a guide for the bottom of Casper's body. Pay attention to the size of the circle in relation to the head. Don't place the circle too far away or the body will be too long.

Step 5: Draw two long, sloping lines that connect the head to the circle at the bottom for the rest of the guide for Casper's body. The line on the bottom should be longer and more curved.

Step 6: To the left of the cheek, draw a short sloping line as a guide for Casper's first arm. At the end of the arm, draw a small circle as a guide for the hand. On the right side of the body, draw a longer, sloping line as a guide for the other arm. At the end of the line draw another small circle as a guide for the other hand. Don't make the circles for the hands too big.

Step 7: On the lower, left side of the body, draw a small oval-like shape as a guide for Casper's first foot. The left side of this foot will be behind the body. Below this oval, draw another small oval as a guide for the other foot. To the left, draw a short, curved line as a guide for the top of the leg.

That's it for the guides! For the next steps, use darker lines for a more defined drawing.

Step 8: Inside the head, draw two long ovals for Casper the ghost's eyes. Place the eyes on top of the horizontal construction line. At the bottom of each eye, draw a short, curved line for the top part of the chubby cheeks. Use the vertical construction line as a guide to space out the eyes.

Step 9: Inside each eye, on the lower, right side, draw two small ovals for Casper's pupils. Shade in the ovals except for a tiny circle inside each that represents highlights. High above each eye, draw a thick, curved line for the eyebrows.

Step 10: Between the eyes, on the bottom, draw a couple of short, curved lines for the nose. Place the nose where the two construction lines intersect. Don't draw the nose too big.

Step 11: On the lower part of the head, draw Casper's mouth using a few curved lines. The mouth should be very close to the lower edge of the head. The line for the bottom part of the mouth should curve a lot and it should be similar to the letter U. Notice how small it is in relation to the rest of the head. Inside the mouth, draw a couple of small, curved lines for the tongue.

Step 12: Use initial circle and curved line below it as guides to draw the rest of Casper's head. To draw the head simply darken the outer edge of the initial guides. Curve the line more on the let side to create the cheek. Don't close off the shape at the bottom.

Step 13: Use the line and small circle on the right side of the body as guides to draw Casper the ghost's first arm. Draw the shape of the arm around the initial guide. Curve the top of the shape for the shoulder. On the right side of the small circle, draw three thin, small arcs for the fingers. On the bottom of the circle, draw a shorter, U-shaped arc for the thumb.

Step 14: Under the body, darken the top-most oval to create Casper's first foot. On the left side, draw a long, curved line for the top part of the leg. Use the bottom edge of the initial circle as a guide to draw part of the curved line.

Step 15: Darken the bottom edge of the other small oval to create Casper's other foot. Darken the line to the left of the oval along with a part of the circle for the other leg.

Step 16: Darken the lines on the sides to finish with Casper's body. Don't overlap the arm on the right and leave a small gap between the body and the head on the left side.

Step 17: Draw Casper's other arm the same way as the first arm. Follow the path of the initial guide and draw the shape of the arm around it. Draw a series of short, curved arcs around the initial circle to create the hand and fingers. The fingers on the sides should be smaller because it's the pinky and thumb.

Step 18: Go over the final sketch lines with a pen, marker or any other type of permanent ink. Take your time and be careful when you ink to avoid any accidents. After the ink dries, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser for a cleaner drawing of Casper the friendly ghost.

Final Step: Color your Casper drawing using colored pencils, markers or crayons! Use black for the inside of the mouth and red for the tongue. Use a bit of light blue along the edges of the figure for some shadows. You can skip the shadows too if you'd like.
