The written step-by-step video tutorial:

Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.

Step 1: Start by drawing a circle at the top of the paper as a guide for Sylvester's head. First make four small marks to determine the circle's height and width. Then connect the marks using curved lines. Sketch lightly at first so that it's easy to erase if you make a mistake. If you're struggling to draw the circle, just trace the outer rim of a small, circular object like a coin or a bottle cap.

Step 2: Inside the head, draw a horizontal line as a guide to help you place this Looney Tunes character's facial features later. Place the line a bit higher than the middle. Curve it so that it contours to the circle. On the top, right, draw a short, curved, vertical line for another guide. On top of the head, draw two small, triangular shapes as guides for Sylvester's ears. The two shapes should be similar to the letter M.

Step 3: Below the head, use the four-marks method to draw a small circle as a guide for the top part of Sylvester's body. This circle should be smaller than the head. Don't draw it too far away from the head or the neck will be too long. Draw two short lines that connect the circles together and form the guide for this cartoon cat's neck.

Step 4: Below the top part of the body, draw a bigger circle as a guide for the lower half of the body. Draw this circle off to the left side a bit. This circle should be bigger than Sylvester's head. Pay attention to the space between the body circles. Don't draw them too close together. Draw two lines to connect the body circles and finish the guide for the torso.

Step 5: On the lower, left side of the body, draw a small, tilted oval as a guide for Sylvester's first hand. It's okay to overlap the body. Above the oval, draw a long, angled line as a guide for the arm. Curve the line at the top for the shoulder.

Step 6: On the lower, right side of the body, draw a small, curved line as a guide for the other partially hidden hand. Above the hand, draw another angled line for the other arm. Curve the top for the shoulder.

Step 7: On the lower, left side of the body, draw a short, curved line as a guide for Sylvester's first leg. Below the line, draw a small oval on its side as a guide for this cartoon cat's first foot.

Step 8: On the right, draw another short, curved line with an oval under it for the other leg and foot. The oval for this foot should be smaller than the other foot because Sylvester's body is slightly turned. Starting on the lower, left side of the body, draw a long, wavy line as a guide for the tail.

That's it for the guides! For the next steps, use darker lines for a more defined drawing.

Step 9: On the right side of this Looney Tunes character's head, draw a small, triangle-like shape for the nose. Use the initial lines as guides. The nose should be pretty big in relation to the head. The right side of Sylvester's nose should stick out of the head.

Step 10: On the lower, right side of the nose, draw a small, curved line for the first part of Sylvester's muzzle. To the left, draw a longer, curved line for the other half of the muzzle. This line should almost touch the lower edge of the main circle. To the left of the nose, draw a couple of short, curved lines for the wrinkles on the muzzle.

Step 11: To the left of Sylvester's muzzle, draw a curved, horizontal line for the top part of the open mouth. Draw this line along the initial horizontal guide. Below that, draw a long, U-shaped line for the bottom part of the cartoon cat's open mouth. The bottom of the mouth should extend past the lower edge of the main circle. Make the top of the open mouth wide and the bottom part narrow. Under the mouth, draw a small, curved line for the lower lip.

Step 12: Starting on top of the muzzle, draw a line that curves to the left for the first furry cheek. This line should extend far out to the left of the initial circle. Add a jagged tip at the end. Below that, draw a shape that's similar to the letter V on its side for the pointy tip of Sylvester's furry cheek. Connect the bottom of the cheek to the mouth. On the right, draw a similar shape, only smaller, for the other cheek. Don't overlap the muzzle as you draw the cheek on the right side.

Step 13: On top of the muzzle, draw two tall, thin arcs for the eyes. Draw Sylvester's eyes on either side of the initial vertical guide line. The eye on the right should be a bit smaller. Above each eye, draw a short, curved line for the eyebrows.

Step 14: Inside each eye, draw a small circle and shade it in for Sylvester's pupils. Draw the pupils along the left edges of the eyes. Don't draw them too big. Inside the mouth, at the bottom, draw two short, curved lines for the tongue. On either side of this Looney Tunes character's muzzle, draw two long lines and a small dot for whiskers and detail.

Step 15: On the right side of the eyes, draw a short line for the side of the head. The line should slope to the right so that the head is thin at the top and wide at the bottom. Between the ears, draw three short, curved lines for a bit of fur. To the left of Sylvester's eyes, draw another short, sloping line for the other side of the head.

Step 17: Darken the right edge of the oval on the left for the first part of Sylvester's hand. Near the bottom, on the inside, draw a short, curved line for the first curled finger. This finger should almost be an oval. On the tip of this cartoon cat's finger, draw a tiny, angled line for a claw. To the left, draw another curved, oval-like line for another finger. Add a pointy claw at the top. Draw a third finger and claw the same way along the inner edge of the initial oval. Use the angled line at the top as a guide to draw the rest of the arm. Draw the shape of the lower arm around the guide. Add some jagged lines at the top for Sylvester's furry elbow. Draw a sloping line under the guide to make the top of the arm thicker. Darken the top part of the guide to finish the shape of the arm.

Step 18: Darken the curved line on the lower, left side for the first part of this Looney Tunes character's leg. Draw jagged lines along the top edge of the oval for fur. Draw two curved lines on the left side of the oval to separate the toes.

Step 19: Use the shapes and lines in the middle as guides to draw Sylvester's body. Darken the outer edges of the initial guides to create the long shape of the body. Inside the body, draw a long, wavy line that separates the black fur from the white fur. Sketch lightly at first to get the line right. Below the head, draw a shorter line to emphasize the chest.

Step 20: Darken the top of the angled line on the right for the first part of the arm. Draw the bottom of Sylvester's arm around the guide. Use jagged lines for the furry elbow. The top of the arm should be thick and the bottom skinny. Part of it will be hidden behind the body. Draw a couple of curved lines at the bottom for the hand and a finger. Add a claw on the tip of the finger.

Step 21: Darken the curved line on the left for the first part of the other leg. Add a shorter line on the left to complete the leg. Draw jagged lines along the bottom for the fur. Darken the oval at the bottom for Sylvester's foot. Add couple of curved line inside for the toes.

Step 23: Go over the final sketch lines with a pen, marker or any other type of permanent ink. Take your time and be careful when you ink your drawing of Sylvester the cat to avoid any accidents. After the ink dries, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser for a cleaner drawing.
