The written step-by-step video tutorial:
Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.
Step 1: Draw a big circle near the top of the paper as a guide for Starfire's head. First make four marks to determine the circle's height and width. Then connect the marks using curved lines. If you're struggling to draw the circle, just trace the outer rim of a circular object like a coin or a lid.
Step 2: Inside the head, draw a curved, horizontal line as a guide to help you place Starfire's facial features later. Add a curved, vertical line across the circle for another construction guide line.
Step 3: Under Starfire's head, draw two short lines as guides for the neck and a small triangle as a guide for the torso. Make the triangle thin. Pay attention to the size of it in relation to this Teen Titans Go character's head.
Step 4: Under that, draw another small, triangle-like shape as a guide for the lower part of the torso. This triangle will dictate the shape of Starfire's skirt. The top of this triangle will be hidden behind the first triangle.
Step 5: Starting on the top, left side of Starfire's body, draw a long, sloping line as a guide for the first arm. At the end of the line, draw a small circle as a guide for the fist. On the right side, draw another long, sloping line with a circle at the end as a guide for the other arm and fist.
Step 6: Starting on the lower, left side of the body, draw a long, vertical line as a guide for Starfire's first leg. To the right, draw a long, angled line as a guide for the other leg. The bottom of this line should touch the first line.
That's it for the guides! For the next steps, use darker lines for a more defined drawing.
Step 7: Inside Starfire's head, near the top, draw two thick, curved lines for the top part of the eyes. Curve the outer tips of each line down and make the ends thin and pointy. Use the construction lines as guides to help you place this cartoon character's eye. The curved line on the right should be smaller. On the top, outer edges of each eye, draw two thick, triangular shapes and shade them in for Starfire's eyelashes. The big eyelashes should stick out of the head. Notice how big the eyes are in relation to the head.
Step 8: Inside each eye, on the left side, draw a small oval for the irises. Starfire's irises should be almost the length of the entire eye. Make the iris on the right a bit smaller. Inside each iris, off to the left side, draw a tiny circle for highlights. In the middle of each iris, draw another small oval and shade it in for the pupils. Don't overlap the highlights. Above Starfire's eyes, draw two small, drop-like shapes for the eyebrows.
Step 9: To the left of the vertical construction line and above the horizontal line, draw a small, angled line for Starfire's nose. Below the horizontal guide, draw a small shape that's similar to the letter D on its side for the open mouth. Inside the mouth, draw a flat line at the top for the teeth and a curved line at the bottom for the tongue.
Step 10: Along the top edge of the main circle, draw a small, angled line for the hair bangs or fringe. The shape of this line should be similar to an angled letter M. Make the right side of this line slightly smaller. The line should wrap around Starfire's eyebrows. Above that, draw a bigger angled line for the top part of the bangs or fringe. Make the top of the bangs thick. Add some lines at the bottom for extra detail on this Teen Titans Go character's hair. On the left side of the head, draw a line that extends down to the arm for the first part of the side of the hair. On the left side, draw an angled line to complete the clump of hair on the side. Make the top part thinner than the bottom.
Step 11: Use the main circle as a guide to draw the shape of Starfire's head. Darken the edges of the circle but make the shape more angular, especially at the bottom for the chin. On the left side of the clump of hair, draw a small C-shaped line for the ear. Below the head, draw a small angular shape for the neck portion of this cartoon character's costume. This small neck piece should have six sides. The shape should be similar to a hexagon.
Step 12: Darken the line on the top, left side of the body for Starfire's first arm. At the bottom, on top of the small circle, draw a long, hexagonal shape for the wrist section of the costume. Make the arm thicker at the top. Inside the wrist section, draw a line and a small oval for detail. Darken the circle at the bottom for the fist. Draw a few lines on the right for the folded fingers.
Step 13: Use the triangular shapes in the middle as guides to draw the torso of this Teen Titans Go character. Simply darken the outer edges of the guides to create the hourglass shape of Starfire's body. Make the bottom edge of the shape wavier than the guide for the flowy skirt. Draw a line near the neck piece for her top. Near the middle of the torso, draw the belt. The belt is a small oval with a couple of lines on each side. In the neck piece, draw a diamond with some lines for detail.
Step 14: Darken the line on the right for Starfire's other arm. Add a second line to make the shape thicker. Near the bottom, draw an angled shape for the wrist piece of the costume. This shape should have six sides, and it should be similar to a long hexagon. Draw a small oval and a line inside the wrist piece for extra detail on the costume of this Teen Titans Go character. Darken the circle at the bottom for the fist and draw a couple of short lines on the left side for the folded fingers.
Step 15: Darken the long line on the left for the side of the first leg. To the left, draw another long line for the other side of the leg. Draw the line farther away at the bottom. The leg should be wide at the bottom. Sketch lightly at first and only darken the lines when you get the shape right. Draw a line near the bottom and a couple of lines at the top for the detail on Starfire's costume.
Step 16: Darken the guide on the right for the other leg. Add a second line to make the shape of the leg thicker. The wide bottom of the leg will be hidden behind the first leg. Add a couple of lines inside the shape for Starfire's costume.
Step 17: Above the bangs, draw a line for the top of Starfire's hair. Don't overlap the bangs. To the left of the body, draw a long, wavy line for the big hair. Sketch lightly at first to get the shape right. The line should be S-shaped and almost as long as the body. When you get the shape right, darken the line. Draw a series of short, angled, V-shaped lines across the bottom for the pointy tips of the hair. To the right of the body, draw a long, curved line for the other side of the big hair. Below the right side of the head, draw the chunk of hair that's on the other side of Starfire's face using a couple of lines.
Step 18: Go over the final sketch lines with a pen, marker or any other type of permanent ink. Take your time and be careful when you ink to avoid any accidents. After the ink dries, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser for a cleaner drawing of Starfire from Teen Titans Go!
Final Step: Color your Starfire drawing using colored pencils, markers or crayons! Use dark pink for the hair. Color the skin peach or light orange. Outline the shapes of the eyes and don't color the insides. Use light yellow-green for the inside of the eyes, yellow green for the irises and black for the inside of the mouth and costume details. Use pink for the tongue and light purple for the neck and wrist pieces of the costume. Use purple for the rest of Starfire's costume. Don't forget to pause the video after each step to draw at your own pace.
