The written step-by-step video tutorial:
Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.
Step 1: Draw a short, horizontal line near the top of the paper for the first part of the quarterback's helmet. Add a short, vertical line on the right. The two lines should be similar to a backward letter L. At the top, draw a long, curved, dome-like arc for the top of the helmet. To the left of the first line, draw a curved line similar to the number 5 for the side of the football player's helmet. Draw an angled line on the lower, left side to close off the shape of the helmet.
Step 2: Under the front part of the helmet, draw a short, angled line for the nose. The shape of the line for the football player's nose should be similar to a small, blocky number 3.
Step 3: Under the nose, draw a long, blocky shape for the football player's chin and jaw. The line for the chin should meet the side of the helmet on the left side. Draw a short line under the nose for the mouth. At the top, just below the front of the helmet, draw a small, triangular shape for the quarterback's eye.
Step 4: Draw a small circle on the side of the quarterback's helmet. Then draw a horizontal line coming out of it across the face for the mask. Below that, draw an angled line across the face for the bottom of the mask. Connect the lines using two short, vertical lines to complete the shape of the football player's face mask.
Step 5: Under the football player's head, draw a short, V-shaped line for the neck. Add an extra-wide, V-shaped line underneath for the jersey's collar. To the left, draw a long, curved, dome-like arc for the quarterback's first shoulder.
Step 6: Below the quarterback's shoulder, draw the football. Pay attention to how big the football is in relation to the head. The shape of the football should be similar to an oval with pointy ends.
Step 7: On the left side of the football, draw four thin, long, oval-like shapes for the quarterback's fingers. The fingers should overlap each other and the football. They should get smaller the farther down they are. Draw a long line across the football with three smaller lines over it for the stitches.
Step 8: Under the football, draw a curved line for the visible part of the quarterback's forearm and elbow. To the left, draw a small, curved line for a bit of the bicep peeking out from behind the football.
Step 9: To the right of the head, draw a long, curved dome-like arc for the quarterback's other shoulder. Sketch lightly at first so that you get the shape right. Make the bottom part of the line flat. Under the shoulder, draw a curved line that angles to the left for the arm and elbow. Continue to draw the line up toward the face for the forearm. Make the end flat for the wrist. Draw an angled line on the right to complete the forearm and wrist sweatband.
Step 10: To the left of the wrist, draw an angled horizontal line for the top of the quarterback's other hand. On the left side draw three thin, long, arc-like lines for the fingers. Take your time as this can be tricky. Close off the bottom of the football player's hand using a curved line and add another thin arc for the thumb.
Step 11: Draw a long, horizontal line from the football to the arm on the right for the big chest. Sketch lightly at first. Darken the line when you get the shape and position right. Add the torso by drawing a long, vertical line under either side of the chest. Close off the shape of the quarterback's torso by drawing, a long, horizontal line at the bottom.
Step 12: Below the torso, on the left side, draw a line that slopes to the left for the quarterback's first leg. Make the leg thicker by drawing another sloping line on the right. Connect the lines at the bottom. Add a couple of lines inside the shape of the leg for the padding.
Step 13: Below the leg, draw a big, blocky shape for the kneepad. Below that, draw two long, vertical lines for the lower part of the quarterback's leg: the shin section.
Step 14: At the bottom, draw the football player's shoe as a long, round shape. Add a wide arc at the top for the shoe's tongue. Add a square-like shape inside for the laces and a few V-shaped lines at the bottom for the cleats.
Step 15: Under the torso, on the right, draw a big U-shaped line for the top of the quarterback's other leg. Draw a couple of short, curved lines inside the leg for the padding.
Step 16: Below the quarterback's leg, draw a curved, almost circular line for the kneepad. Below the kneepad, draw two curved, vertical lines that slope to the right for the shin section of the leg.
Step 17: Below the shin, draw a square-like shape for the shoe's tongue. Add the shoe using a long, curved line. Draw another square-like shape in the middle for the laces. Draw a few V-shaped lines under the quarterback's shoe for the cleats.
Step 18 (optional): Draw a bit more detail throughout the quarterback's uniform. You can add a stripe and circle to the helmet or any other design you like. Pick your favorite number and draw it in front and on the football player's shoulder pads. Part of it will be hidden. Whatever number you choose, make sure that it is big and blocky and don't overlap the hand in front of it. You can look up your favorite football team's uniform and try to duplicate its design on your drawing. If you'd like, you can add a towel on the waist using a couple of long, vertical lines.
Step 19: Using a pen or marker, carefully draw over the lines to make your quarterback drawing permanent. Take your time and be careful when you ink to avoid any accidents. After the ink dries, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.
Final Step: Color your quarterback drawing using colored pencils, markers or crayons! For this look, use red for the main sections of the uniform. You can also color your drawing using your favorite football team's colors instead. Use light gray for the accents throughout the uniform. Use peach, yellow-orange, brown or light brown for the skin. Use brown for the football and dark gray for the extra detail. Don't forget to pause the video to draw at your own pace.
