Written step-by-step video tutorial:
For the first few steps, don't press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin.
Step 1: Draw two curved lines next to each other for the black cat's eyes. Sketch lightly at first so that it's easy to erase if you make a mistake. Pay attention to the placement of the eyes. Don't draw them too far apart. When you get the shapes right, darken the lines and make them thick for eyelashes. The longer you make these curved lines, that bigger this Halloween cat's eyes will be.
Step 2: Under each curved line, draw an oval for the cat's irises. Make the ovals the same size and position them near the middle of each eye.

Step 3: Inside each iris, on the top, left side, draw a small circle for highlight/glare. In the middle of each iris, draw a big dot for the black cat's pupils. As you shade the pupils, don't overlap the small glare circles. Draw another small circle on the lower, right side of each iris for more highlights.
Step 4: Between the cat's eyes, draw a tiny triangle for the nose. Under the nose, draw a curved line for the mouth. The mouth should be similar to a number 3 on its side.
Step 5: Below the cat's face, draw a long, curved, horizontal line for the bottom part of the head. The tips of the line should extend farther outward than the eyes.
Step 6: On either side of the line, draw three short, triangular spikes for this Halloween cat's furry cheeks. Don't draw the furry cheeks higher than the eyes. Above each cheek, draw a vertical line for the side of the head.
Step 7: At the top of the line on the left, draw a big triangular shape for the black cat's first ear. Inside the shape, draw a line for the ear structure and a couple of angled lines for the fur.
Step 8: Draw the ear on the right side the same way. Make it the same size as the first ear. First draw a big, triangular shape for the black cat's ear, and then add the details inside.
Step 9: Draw short lines on the inner sides of the cat's ears for the first part of the top of the pumpkin. At the bottom draw a longer, curved, horizontal line for the bottom of the pumpkin's lid. At the top, draw three short, curved lines for the ridges on the lid.
Step 10: Inside the pumpkin's lid, draw a wavy line with a couple of line on top for the detail on the ridges. At the top of the lid, draw the stalk as a short, narrow shape using a couple of lines.
Step 11: Under the head, on the left side, draw a small, oval-like shape for the black cat's first paw. Sketch lightly at first to get the paw right. The shape doesn't close off on the right. Connect the paw to the head with a short line. At the bottom, draw two short lines for the toes.
Step 12: To the left, draw the other paw the same way. Make this Halloween cat's paw the same shape but make it curve to the right this time. Both paws should be similar, but it's okay if they're not perfectly symmetrical.
Step 13: Draw a curved, horizontal line between the cat's paws for the top part of the pumpkin. Make a small mark at the bottom to indicate how tall you want your pumpkin to be. Extend the mark to create a curved line for the bottom of the pumpkin.
Step 14: Draw a long, curved line from the curved line at the bottom to the paw on the left for the side of the pumpkin. Sketch lightly at first. You can draw this curved line farther to the left to make your pumpkin wider.
Step 15: To the right, draw another curved line from the paw to the bottom for the other side of the pumpkin. The sides don't have to look exactly alike, but try to make them as similar to each other as you can.
Step 16: Below the cat's paw on the left, draw a small triangle for the jack-o-lantern's first eye. Under the paw on the right, draw another triangle of similar size for the other eye. Draw a couple of lines inside each eye to give the pumpkin some thickness.
Step 17: Below the jack-o-lantern's eyes, draw another small triangle for the nose. Add some lines inside for thickness. Draw a line above and below each eye for the grooves on the pumpkin.
Step 18: Below the nose, draw the jack-o-lantern's big smile using a series of curved and angled lines. The top part of the open mouth is made up of a long curved line with square-like shapes on the sides for teeth. The bottom part of the mouth is another curved line but with only one square tooth in the middle. Sketch lightly at first to get the shape right. You can also use triangular teeth instead for a scarier look.
Step 19: Using a pen or marker, carefully go over the lines to make your black cat and jack-o-lantern drawing permanent. After the ink dries, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.
Final Step: Color your cat and jack-o-lantern drawing using color pencils, markers or crayons! Use black to outline the shapes of the cat's eyes. Color the rest of the cat black. Leave a small area around the mouth, neck and paws blank so they stand out. Use pink for the ears and nose. Don't smear the black into the pink.
Use dark green for the pumpkin's stalk and the top of the cat's irises. Color the rest of the irises yellow-green. Use orange for the main part of the pumpkin. Use yellow for the rest of the pumpkin. Don't forget to pause the video to draw at your own pace.
