How to Draw King Boo

Use the video and step-by-step drawing instructions below to learn how to draw King Boo from Nintendo's Super Mario Bros. video games. A new drawing tutorial is uploaded every week, so stay tooned!

Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.

Draw King Boo 1

Step 1: Start by drawing a big circle near the middle of the page. This will be the basic shape for King Boo's head and body. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It’s just a guide.

Step 2: Next, draw two intersecting lines across the circle, one vertical and one horizontal. Bend the lines so that they contour to the shape. The vertical line should be closer to the right side of the circle, and the horizontal line should be closer to the top. These will be construction lines that will help you when learning how to draw King Boo's facial features later on.

Step 3: Draw two small ovals as guides for King Boo's eyes. Draw them sitting on top of the horizontal construction line and on either side of the vertical construction line. The ovals should be pretty close together. The oval on the right should be a bit smaller because of perspective.

Step 4: On the bottom half of the circle, under the horizontal construction line, draw a shape similar to a half oval as a guide for King Boo's mouth. To draw this shape, first draw a big U-shaped arc, then close the arc on top by drawing a horizontal line.

Step 5: On top of the circle, draw a shape similar to a letter W with two small vertical lines on either side. This is a guide for King Boo's crown. Notice that the crown is on the left side of the vertical construction line.

Step 6: That’s it for the initial sketch! You have learned how to draw the basic King Boo shape. Now go in and tighten your drawing. From this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.

Step 7: Now learn how to draw King Boo's eyes. On top of the small ovals inside the head, draw two big U-shaped arcs for King Boo's eyebrows. The point that the arcs form in the middle should be right on top of the vertical construction line. Shade in the small ovals except for a tiny spot at the top to represent glare.

Draw King Boo 8

Step 8: Now learn how to draw King Boo's tongue and mouth. Draw the tongue at the bottom of the mouth shape by using a series of curved lines. The bottom part of the tongue should stick outside of the main circle.

Draw King Boo 9

Step 9: Use the U-shaped arc as a guide to draw the rest of King Boo's mouth. Darken the sides and the top of the mouth and make the lines curvier. In the top, inside part of the mouth, draw four triangle-like shapes for King Boo's teeth. The points of the teeth should be rounder, and the teeth on the sides should be a bit bigger than the ones in the middle.

Step 10: On either side of the head, draw two small arcs for King Boo's arms. The arms should be placed at the ends of the horizontal construction line.

Step 11: Now draw King Boo's body and head by using the original circle as a guide. Darken the line, but when you get to the lower left side, draw an extra curved line under the arm for the tail-like appendage.

Step 12: Now learn how to draw King Boo's crown. Draw the jewels on the crown using a couple of diamonds. Draw one diamond on the middle of the crown and another on the left side. Draw just an angled line on the right side. Part of that diamond isn't visible because of the perspective.

Step 13: Draw the rest of King Boo's crown using the initial shape as a guide. On the tips of each point on the crown, draw a small diamond-like shape for extra detail.

Step 14: That’s it! You now have a nice sketch of King Boo from Nintendo's Super Mario Bros. video games. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look or go for a more finished look by continuing to the step below.

Step 15: For a more finished, inked look, carefully draw over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for the ink to dry, and then get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser. You now have a finished inked drawing of King Boo! You can stop here or go to the final step to complete your king Boo drawing.

Final Step: For a completely finished King Boo drawing, you have to color it. You can use markers, color pencils or even crayons! Color the crown yellow and the jewels red and blue. The inside of King Boo's mouth is brown, and his tongue is red. You can leave King Boo white or you can add a bit of shadow using gray to make him appear rounder. Add the light gray mainly at the bottom of the body and some at the top and upper lip. That’s it! You now have a completed drawing of King Boo from Nintendo's Super Mario Bros. video games.
