How to Draw Wario
Use the video and step-by-step drawing instructions below to learn how to draw Wario from Nintendo's Mario Brothers video games. A new cartoon drawing tutorial is uploaded every week, so stay tooned!
Intro: Start drawing Wario with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don't press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.
Step 1: To draw Wario, start with a big rounded square, meaning the square's corners are rounded a bit and its sides bulge out slightly. Draw a big curve on top of this shape. This will be the basic shape for Wario's head.
Step 2: Inside the shapes, draw two curved intersecting lines, one vertical and one horizontal. Draw the vertical line a bit closer to the right edge of the head shape, and draw the horizontal line somewhere near the middle of the entire shape. These will be construction lines that will help you place Wario's features later on.
Step 3: Slightly below where the two construction lines meet, draw an oval shape. This is the basic shape for this video game character's big nose.
Step 4: Draw Wario's eyes. First draw a long curved line that goes from the top of the horizontal line on the left side of the vertical line to the top part of his nose. Do the same thing on the right side of the vertical line, but draw the curve slightly smaller because of perspective.
Step 5: The Wario character from Nintendo's Mario Brothers video games has a very big sinister smile. Draw Wario's smile by drawing a big shape under his nose that looks like a long letter D on its side.
Step 6: Draw Wario's big ears by drawing two curves that look like the letter C on either side of his head. Draw the one on the right smaller because of the perspective.
Step 7: That's it for the initial sketch of Wario from Nintendo's Mario Brothers video games! You have the basic Wario shape, so now go in and tighten your drawing. From this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.
Step 8: Darken the shape of Wario's nose and draw an extra curve on either side of it directly below the horizontal construction line to represent his nostrils.
Step 9: Now draw Wario's crazy moustache. Just draw a series of zigzags on the lower sides of his nose. The right side of Wario's moustache will be narrower because of the perspective, but each side should have two “hills” on top and three “valleys” on the bottom plus the pointy end.
Step 10: Darken in the shape of Wario's mouth. Shade in the sides of his mouth to represent the inside of it. Inside his smile, draw four little plus signs to indicate the places where his teeth come together.
Step 11: For Wario's hat, draw a line that goes from the left side of the main shape at the end of the horizontal construction line. This line curves and grazes the top of the original rounded square and ends just above the other side of the horizontal construction line.
Step 12: To draw the top part of Wario's hat, use the top curve of the main shape as a guide. Give him an extra curve on the left side the ends on top of his left ear to represent the back of his hat.
Step 13: Finally draw a big W on the front of Wario's hat above the hat's bill. Draw a series of lines behind the W that resemble a half circle.
Step 14: Darken in the shape of Wario's eyes. Draw a curved line underneath the eyes that represent the top of his cheeks. Draw thick eyebrows over each eye that hide behind the bill of his hat.
Step 15: Draw a curve on the outer side of Wario's eyes that goes from the bottom of the eyebrow to the line the eyes are sitting on. This will give Wario a more crazed look. Inside of this video game character's eyes, draw three tiny circles inside each other that represent the iris, pupil and glare.
Step 16: Now draw in the sideburn on the left side of Wario's face. Draw the sideburn so it sits below his cap and behind Wario's moustache. It's round at the bottom and has a tiny point where it curls up on the lower right side. Give Wario's ear more shape and make it pointy on top. Draw in some lines within it to indicate the inside of Wario's ear.
Step 17: Add in the bottom of Wario's face by drawing his massive jaw. Just darken in the main shape and bring the line in closer on the right side between his eyebrow and moustache. And of course don't forget his cleft chin; draw two curves and a horizontal line that represents Wario's lower lip.
Step 18: Finish up Wario by drawing in the right sideburn that sits below his hat and behind his moustache. And add in this video game character's pointy ear that sits behind the sideburn.
Step 19: That's it! You now have a nice sketch of Wario from Nintendo's Mario Brothers video games. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look or go for a more finished look by continuing to the step below.
Step 20: For a more finished, inked look, carefully go over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for the ink to dry, and then get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser. You now have a finished inked drawing of Wario! You can stop here or go to the final step to complete your Wario drawing.
Final Step: For a completely finished Wario drawing, you have to color it. You can use markers, color pencils or even crayons! Color Wario's cap yellow. The W on the hat is blue along with his eyes. His hair is brown, while his eyebrows and moustache are black. His big nose is pink, and the area on the sides of his eyes is light blue. Wario's skin is a peach color like the Princess! If you don't have peach, then improvise! Use light orange or pink, or anything that looks good. Experiment! That's it! You now have a completed drawing of Wario from Nintendo's Mario Brothers video games.
