Intro: Start drawing Link with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don't press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.

 

Step 1: To draw Link, start with an egg shape that points down in the middle of the page. You don't have to draw the egg shape perfectly. It's only a guide for Link's head.

 

Step 2: Next, draw two intersecting lines across the egg shape, one vertical and one horizontal. When drawing the lines, bend them so they follow the contour of the shape. Draw two smaller lines in between the horizontal construction line and the bottom of the egg. These will be construction lines that will help you place Link's facial features later on.

 

Step 3: On top of the horizontal construction line and on either side of the vertical construction line, draw two shapes that resemble diamonds with rounded corners for Link's eyes. Draw the shape on the right slightly smaller because of the perspective.

 

Step 4: Draw a curved line similar to a letter C on the left side of the egg shape for Link's ear. At the bottom of the egg shape, draw a couple of short, curved lines for his neck.

 

Step 5: Draw a basic guide for the front part of Link's hair. Draw a long curved line on the upper left-hand side of the egg and somewhat of an oval shape on the upper right side of the egg.

Step 6: Link's hat will come over across his shoulder, so draw a line that starts at the top of his bangs, moves to the left, then curves down and comes back up to the neck. The hat will form a point at the bottom.

 

Step 7: That's it for the initial sketch of Link from The Legend of Zelda! You have the basic shape for Link, so now go in and tighten your drawing. From this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.

 

Step 8: Darken in the shapes of Link's eyes to give him thick eyelashes. Draw them pointier in the upper corners. Also draw a small curve above each of his eyes to represent eyelids.

 

Step 9: Finish Link's eyes by drawing a series of three circles, one inside the other, which will represent his iris, pupil and glare. Shade in his pupil. Darken in the shape of this video game character's eyes and give him thick eyelashes. Also draw a small curve above each of his eyes to represent eyelids.

 

Step 10: Draw Link's nose, which sits on the smaller of the horizontal lines. For his pointy nose, draw an angled line on the right side of the vertical line. And for his nostril, draw two curved lines, one vertical and one horizontal, on the left side of the vertical line.

Step 11: Draw Link's mouth on top of the lowest of the horizontal construction lines and draw it as a longer, slightly curved line. Below it, draw another curved line for his lower lip.

 

Step 12: Tighten the left side of Link's bangs by using the initial shape as a guide. Draw them as big clumps of hair; don't draw every single individual hair. It should be jagged and pointy at the bottom with a few lines within the shape for detail.

 

Step 13: Draw the right side of Link's bangs using the same technique: clumps. Remember, draw curved lines at the top, jagged points at the bottom and lines within it for detail.

 

Step 14: Above Link's eyes, draw his eyebrows as long, narrow rectangles that hide behind his hair. Angle them to give this video game character a tougher look.

 

Step 15: Draw Link's sideburn below the left side of his bangs and right next to the guide for his ear. Use curved lines that come to a point like his bangs.

Step 16: Draw Link's ear by using the initial shape as a guide. Make it pointier and draw a few lines inside of it for structure. Sketch in a few curved lines on Link's earlobe for an earring.

 

Step 17: Tighten the side of Link's face by darkening it. Make the line dip inward toward his eye a little to draw his cheek. Behind his face, draw the other sideburn like you did the first. You can't see his right ear because it's turned away from us.

 

Step 18: Use the initial shape to draw Link's hat. Draw a few extra curves for detail and add a band on top of it near his bangs.

 

Step 19: Draw in Link's shirt that wraps around his neck. Draw a tiny V collar, and under it, draw a thick X shape to represent the lace that holds his shirt together.

 

Step 20: That's it! You now have a nice sketch of Link from The Legend of Zelda. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look or go for a more finished look by continuing to the step below.

Step 21: For a more finished, inked look, carefully draw over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for the ink to dry, and then get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser. You now have a finished inked drawing of Link from The Legend of Zelda! You can stop here or go to the final step to complete your Link drawing.

 

Final Step: For a completely finished Link drawing, you have to color it. You can use markers, color pencils or even crayons! Color his hat green and his shirt a light brown or cream color. Link is blond, so his hair and eyebrows are yellow. His eyes are blue, along with his earring. His skin is a peach color; if you don't have peach, improvise and use yellow-orange or light pink. Experiment! That's it! You now have a completed drawing of Link from The Legend of Zelda.
