The written step-by-step video tutorial:
Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.
Step 1: Draw a small circle at the top of the page as a guide for Princess Peach's head. First make four small marks to determine the circle's height and width. Then connect the marks using curved lines. If you're struggling to draw the circle, just trace the outer rim of a small, circular object like a coin or a lid.
Step 2: Draw a curved line under the circle as a guide for this Nintendo character's jaw and chin. Make the bottom a bit pointy. Don't draw the curved line too low, otherwise Peach's head will be too long.
Step 3: Inside the head, draw two intersecting lines as guide to help you place Princess Peach's facial features later. Curve the lines to contour to the head. The vertical line should be closer to the left edge. Draw two short, vertical lines under the head as guides for the neck.
Step 4: Below the head, draw a small circle as a guide for the top part of Princess Peach's body. Use the four-marks method to draw this circle too. This circle should be a bit smaller than the first circle.
Step 5: Far down below the head, make a small mark to determine how long Princess Peach's dress will be. Draw a long, vertical line on the left side for the side of the dress. The line should curve out a bit. On the right, draw a similar line that curves to the right for the other side of Peach's dress. Use the mark at the bottom as a guide to close off the shape of the dress. The result should be similar to a bell.
Step 6: On the top, left side of the body, draw an angled line similar to the letter V as a guide for this Nintendo character's first arm. At the end of the line, draw a small circle as a guide for the hand. On the right side, draw a long, sloping line with a small circle at the end of it as a guide for Peach's other arm and hand.
That's it for the guides! For the next steps, use darker lines for a more defined drawing.
Step 7: Inside the head, on top of the horizontal guide line, draw two small arcs for the eyes. Use the initial vertical line to help you space out Princess Peach's eyes. Sketch lightly at first to get the shapes right. The eye on the left should be a bit smaller. When you get the shapes right, darken the lines. Make the lines thick. Close off the shapes at the bottom with a vertical line. Pay attention to the size of the eyes in relation to the head. Princess Peach has big eyes. On the top part of each eye, draw a series of tiny lines for the eyelashes. Draw fewer eyelashes on the eye on the left and make them a bit smaller too.
Step 8: Draw a small oval inside each eye for the irises. Place the irises close to the right edge of each eye. The iris on the left should be a bit smaller. Draw a small oval inside each iris and shade it in for the pupils. Inside each iris, draw a tiny circle for highlights. Above each eye, draw a tiny line for Princess Peach's eyebrows.
Step 9: Below the eyes, draw a small, angled line that's similar to a less-than sign (<) for the nose. Place Peach's nose closer to the eye on the left. Use the initial lines as guides for placement and size. Below the nose, draw a small line for the mouth. Add a curved line above and below the mouth for the lips. Place the mouth below the edge of the initial circle. The lips should be big compared to the nose.
Step 10: Use the initial lines and shapes as guides to draw the lower part of this Nintendo character's head. Darken the outer edges of the initial circle and arc to create the side of the face, the jaw and chin. Make the top part of the line flatter and curve the lower side for the cheek. Above Princess Peach's eyes, draw a curved line that's similar to the letter V for the front part of the hair. This shape should extend outside of the initial circle. Draw a curved line on the side. On the right side of the face, draw a thin, long shape for the clump of hair that's in front of the ear. On the left side, draw another line for the other clump of hair peeking from behind the head.
Step 11: Above the head, draw a line that slopes to the right for the top of Princess Peach's hair. Don't draw the line too far away from the initial circle. Sketch lightly at first to get the shape right. On the right end of the line, draw a thick, pointy spike for the tip of the hair clump. Below that, draw another thick, pointy shape for another clump of hair. Draw similar shapes on the left side to complete the top part of the hair. This side should be smaller. The top line on the left side should slope more, and the spiky clumps of hair should be smaller.
Step 12: On the right side, draw a small, curved line with a small circle under it for the ear and earring. Don't make these shapes too big. On the left side, draw a bit of the other earring peeking from behind Princess Peach's head.
Step 13: On top of the head, lightly sketch Princess Peach's small crown. The crown is shaped like the letter W. Darken the lines when you get the shape right. Add an extra spike on the right side of the crown. Draw a few ovals inside the shape for the jewels.
Step 14: Draw a curved, horizontal line under the neck for the bottom of the dress' collar. Draw a series of short, curved lines for the top part of the frilly collar. Sketch lightly at first to get the shape right. Darken the lines for the neck but don't overlap the collar. On the right side, draw the big, poofy sleeve using a series of curved lines. The top of this shape should be big and curved. The bottom is made up of smaller curved lines. The sleeve should be almost as big as the initial circle for the torso. Leave a space at the bottom for Princess Peach's arm.
Step 15: Use the long, sloping line on the right side as a guide to draw the first arm. Draw two short lines at the top for the arm coming out of the sleeve. Add the Nintendo character's gloved arm at the bottom. Follow the path of the guide and draw the shape of the arm around it. Keep the shape thin. The arm should be thin near the top, and then slightly wider in the middle for the elbow and thin again for the wrist. To the right of the small circle, lightly sketch four thin, horizontal shapes for Princess Peach's fingers. The fingers should be pointy at the tip. Don't make them too long. When you get the shapes right, darken the lines. At the bottom of the circle, draw a small, curved line that's similar to the letter U for the thumb.
Step 16: Darken the left side of the initial circle but make the bottom part longer for the torso. Below the initial circle, draw a V-shaped line for the middle section of Princess Peach's dress. On the top, left side of the torso, draw a small oval for the jewel on the chest. Don't draw the oval too big. Draw a curved line around the oval for the base of the jewel.
Step 17: Lightly sketch a small arc on top of the small circle on the left side as a guide for the fingers. To the right of the arc, draw a shorter, thinner arc for the thumb. Draw Princess Peach's fingers as thing, long, curved shapes within the arc. The fingers on the side should be smaller. Under the hand, draw the forearm around the left side of the V-shaped guide line. Make the top thin for the wrist and the bottom wide for the forearm. Curve the bottom edge for this Nintendo character's elbow. On the top, left side of the torso, draw the other sleeve using a series of curved lines. Don't overlap the hand. Draw a few more lines around the initial guide to complete the shape of the arm.
Step 18: Draw a long, wavy line on the top, left side for the back portion of the hair. Near the middle of the line, draw a thick, spiky shape for a clump of hair like the clumps at the top. Princess Peach's hair should extend down to the forearm. Draw a pointy shape at the bottom too. On the left side, draw a similar line but don't overlap the shape of the arm.
Step 19: Below the torso, draw two long, curved lines for the fluffy part of Princess Peach's dress. Darken the sides of the initial guide too. The line on the right should be longer. Draw a shorter line for a crease.
Step 20: Darken the big, bell-shaped guide at the bottom for the dress. Draw three long, vertical lines along the bottom for the creases and fold on the dress fabric. Between the folds, draw curved lines along the bottom of the guide to complete the shape of Princess Peach's dress. Draw a few curved lines along the bottom edge for the design on the dress.
Step 21: Go over the final sketch lines with a pen, marker or any other type of permanent ink. Take your time and be careful when you ink your Princess Peach drawing to avoid any accidents. After the ink dries, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser for a cleaner drawing.
Final Step: Color your Princess Peach drawing using colored pencils, markers or crayons! Use yellow for the hair. Use light brown for this Nintendo character's crown and base of the chest jewel. Use red and blue for the jewels and earrings. Just like her name, use peach for the skin. Use dark pink for the lips, collar, the poofy design on the hips of the dress and the trim at the bottom. Use regular pink for the rest of the dress and a bit on the cheeks. Don't forget to pause to draw at your own pace.
