To draw the Gingerbread Man from Shrek, follow step-by-step drawings below. The new lines in each step are shown in red, and each step is explained in the text below the photo, so you'll know exactly what to draw in each step.
Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.
Step 1: Draw a circle at the top of the page as a guide for the Gingerbread Man's head. First make four marks to determine the circle's height and width. Then connect the marks using curved lines. Sketch lightly at first so that it's easy to erase if you make a mistake. If you're struggling to draw the circle, just trace the outer rim of a small, circular object like a coin or a bottle cap.
Step 2: Inside the Gingerbread Man's head, draw two intersecting lines as guides to help you place the Gingerbread Man's facial features later. One line should be vertical and the other horizontal. Tilt the lines slightly to the right so that the head is also tilted a bit.
Step 3: Under the Gingerbread Man's head, draw a big rectangular shape as a guide for the body. The top edge should be narrower than the bottom edge. Curve the edges slightly so that the shape isn't too rigid. Pay attention to the size of this shape in relation to the head.
Step 4: On either side of the Gingerbread Man's body, near the top corners, draw two long lines as guides for the arms. Draw the line on the left going up with a diagonal orientation. The line on the right should curve downward. Under the body, close to the left corner, draw a long, vertical line for the single leg. Directly on the lower, right corner draw a longer, sloping line as a guide for the candy cane crutch.
That's it for the guides! For the next steps, use darker lines for a more defined drawing of the Gingerbread Man from Shrek.
Step 5: Inside the Gingerbread Man's head, draw two small circle's for the Gingerbread Man's eyes. Place the circles on top of the horizontal construction. line and on either side of the vertical line. Above each eye, draw a small curved shape for the eyebrows. The shapes of the eyebrows should be similar to tiny sasauges.
Step 6: Below the Gingerbread Man's eyes, draw a wide curved shape as a guide for the outer edge of mouth. This shape should take up a big part of the lower side of the head and it should be bean-like in shape. Inside this shape, draw a similar but thinner shape for the inisde of the mouth. Darken the very first circle for the head but don't darken the lower edge.
Step 7: Use the diagonal line on the left side of the torso as a guide to draw the Gingerbread Man's first arm. Follow the path of the guide and draw the shape of the arm around it. Make the shape of the arm wide on the sides and round at the top. Curve the top edge so that it attaches to the head.
Step 8: Use the sloping line on the right as a guide to draw the Gingerbread Man's other arm the same way. Follow the path of the guide and draw the arm around it. This arm curves more than the arm on the left.
Step 9: Use the line on the lower, right side as a guide to draw the Gingerbread Man's candy cane crutch. Darken the line and curve the top part along the body and toward the arm to create the left edge of the candy cane. Draw the right edge of the candy cane along the first line. At the top, draw a curved line for the candy cane's hook. Don't overlap the shape of the arm as you draw the candy cane.
Step 10: Darken the sides of the rectangular shape for the Gingerbread Man's body. Draw the top part of the broken leg along the top part of the guide on the lower, left side. First draw three small oval-like shapes for the frosting-like stitches. Then draw the shape of the broken leg around the stitches. Leave room below for the rest of the leg.
Step 11: Below the stitches, draw the rest of the Gingerbread Man's leg. The bottom half of the leg should be similar to a big letter U around the guide line. Inside the leg, draw a thick squiggly shape for frosting. On the lower, right side of the body, draw a squiggly line for the top part of the missing leg.
Step 12: Add the extra details to your Gingerbread Man drawing. Draw a small squiggly line on near the tips of the arms for frosting. In the middle of the chest, draw two small circles for the gumdrop buttons. Below the circles, draw a big squiggly line for more frosting. Draw a series of short, curved lines along the candy cane for the stripes.
Step 13: Go over the final sketch lines with a pen, marker or any other type of permanent ink. Take your time and be careful when you ink your drawing to avoid any accidents. After the ink dries, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser for a cleaner drawing of the Ginger bread man from Shrek.
Final Step: Color your Gingerbread Man drawing using colored pencils, markers or crayons! Use light brown for the entire body. Use light blue for the eyebrows and red for the mouth and candy cane stripes. Color the gumdrop buttons purple. That's it! You know how a finished drawing of the Gingerbread Man from Shrek.
