The Narrated step-by-step video tutorial:
Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching so that it's easy to erase if you make a mistake.
Step 1: Draw a circle as a guide for the top part of Deku's head. First make four marks to determine the circle's height and width. Then connect the marks using curved lines. If you're struggling to draw the circle, just trace the outer rim of a circular object like a cup or a bowl.
Step 2: Under the circle, draw a long curved line for the bottom section of Deku's head. Bend the line slightly at the bottom and sides to indicate the chin and jaw. The tips of the line shouldn't be as wide as the circle. Don't place this line too low or the head will be too long.
Step 3: Inside the entire head shape, draw two intersecting lines. These are construction guides that will help you place Midoriya's facial features later on. Pay attention to the placement of these lines inside the head. On the right side, draw a shorter, curved line as a guide for the ear. Under the head, draw two short, vertical lines as guides for the neck.
That's it for the guides! For the next steps, use darker lines for a more defined drawing of Izuku Midoriya.
Step 4: On top of the horizontal construction line, draw two big curved lines for Deku's eyes. Use the vertical construction line as a guide to help you determine the space between the eyes. Make the top edges of the eyes thick. The eye on the left should be smaller than the eye on the right because the head is turned.
Step 5: Inside the eyes, draw small ovals for Deku's irises. Inside each oval, draw a smaller circle and shade it in for the pupils. On the sides of each pupil, draw a couple of tiny circle for highlights. Above the eyes, draw curved horizontal lines for the eyebrows. To the left of where the construction lines intersect, draw a tiny angled line for the nose. Below the nose, draw a curved horizontal line for the mouth. Place the mouth near the bottom edge of the head circle.
Step 6: Draw a series of curved and spiky lines across the top part of the head for the first part of Midoriya's hair. The bottom tips of the hair should be similar to the letter V. It's okay to overlap the eyebrows as you draw the hair. Curve the lines so that the hair falls on the outer sides of the eyes.
Step 7: On the left side of the head, draw more curved, spike-like shapes for the side of Deku's hair. Pay attention to how far these lines are from the head shape. If you draw the lines too far away the hair might be too big. Use spikes of different sizes as you draw the clumps of hair. These spike should be on their sides.
Step 8: Draw more spike-like shapes above the head for the top part of Deku's messy hair. Notice how the orientation of the spikes rotate as the move across the top of the head. Each spikes should be similar to an upside-down letter V. Pay attention to the distance between these spikes and the top of the head circle.
Step 9: Add more curved, spike-like shapes on the right side to finish the shape of Izuku Midoriya's hair. Tilt the orientation of the spike-like clumps as you draw this side of the hair. The bottom of the hair should end next to the neck. The spike-like shapes at the bottom should be small. Add a couple of V-shaped lines along the top edge of the ear.
Step 10: Darken the initial long, curved line to create the bottom half of Deku's head. On the right side, darken the smaller, curved line for the ear and add a few lines inside the shape for structure. Add a couple of dots on the cheeks for freckles. Draw a curved horizontal line across the neck for the shirt's collar. Make the sides of the collar wider a bit wider than the neck.
Step 11: Go over the final sketch lines with a pen, marker or any other type of permanent ink. Take your time and be careful when you ink to avoid any accidents. After the ink dries, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser for a cleaner drawing of Deku.
Final Step: Color your drawing using colored pencils, markers, crayons or anything else! Use green for the top part of the hair, the irises and the shirt's collar. Add black to the bottom part of the hair for shadows. Use peach for the skin. That's it! You know how a finished drawing of Izuku Midoriya or Deku from My Hero Academia.
