How to Draw Poof
Use the video and step-by-step drawing instructions below to learn how to draw Poof from Nickelodeon's The Fairly OddParents. A new cartoon drawing tutorial is uploaded every week, so stay tooned!
Intro: When learning how to draw Poof, start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.
Step 1: Start by drawing a big circle near the middle of the page. This will be the basic shape for Poof's head/body. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It’s just a guide.
Step 2: Next, draw two intersecting lines across the circle, one vertical and one horizontal. Bend the lines so that they contour to the shape. These will be construction lines that will help you when you are learning to draw Poof's facial features later on.
Step 3: Draw two circles sitting on top of the horizontal construction line and on either side of the vertical construction line. These will be guides for Poof's eyes. The circles should be close together, and they should take up almost all the room within the quarter circle.
Step 4: On the lower sides of the circles, draw an arc as a guide for each of Poof's arms. The shape of the arc should be similar to a sideways letter U. The arc on the right should be a bit smaller because of perspective.
Step 5: On top of the hand on the left, draw a guide for Poof's wand/rattle. To draw the guide, draw a circle that's about the same size as one of Poof's eyes, a line under it and another smaller circle.
Step 6: Under the main circle, draw two more U-shaped arcs as guides for Poof's feet.
Step 7: That’s it for the initial sketch! You have the basic shape of Poof from The Fairly OddParents. Now go in and tighten your Poof drawing. From this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.
Step 8: Now learn how to draw Poof's eyes. Darken the circles to create the outer edge of Poof's eyes. On top of each eye, draw three thick, curved lines for Poof's eyelashes.
Step 9: Inside each eye, draw a smaller circle for Poof's irises. Inside each iris, draw an even smaller circle and shade it in for the pupils. Above each eye, close to the edge of the main circle, draw a curved line for Poof's eyebrows.
Step 10: Under the eyes, right where the construction lines intersect, draw a tiny arc similar to an upside-down letter U for Poof's nose. On the left side of the head, draw a curved line similar to the letter C for Poof's ear. Within the ear shape, draw a swirly line that kind of looks like the number 6 for extra detail on the ear of this Fairly OddParents cartoon character.
Step 11: Under the horizontal construction line and on the left side of the vertical construction line, draw a shape similar to a sideways letter D or a U with a line on top for Poof's mouth. Inside the shape, draw another curved line for Poof's tongue.
Step 12: Now learn how to draw Poof's arm and rattle. First use the arc on the left side as a guide to draw the arm and hand. Darken the arc and draw a line on the wrist for the sleeve. Draw two curved lines at the tip to separate the fingers. Leave a small gap in the line that makes up the hand so that you can draw Poof's wand on the hand.
Step 13: Draw the first part of Poof's wand by darkening the circle above Poof's hand. Draw a small oval on top of the circle for extra detail and draw a star in the middle for the wand's design.
Step 14: Draw a couple of curved lines above and below the star to finish the top part of Poof's wand. Use the line under the circle as a guide to draw the base of the wand. Draw a circle at the bottom of Poof's wand to make it look more like a rattle.
Step 15: Darken the main circle to create Poof's body and head. Leave a gap on the lower left side to show where the left foot attaches to the body.
Step 16: Draw a long curved line under the horizontal construction line for the collar of Poof's onesie. Draw an X under the collar as extra detail on the the onesie.
Step 17: Darken the U-shaped arcs under Poof's body to create the covered feet. Draw line near the middle of the arcs for detail on the onesie.
Step 18: Darken the arc on the right to create Poof's other arm. Draw a line near the wrist for the sleeve and two smaller curved lines at the tip to separate the fingers.
Step 19: On top of Poof's head, draw a thick spiral line for his single curly hair. On the left side of the hair, draw Poof's crown. The crown basically consists of a W-shaped line with a straight line under it.
Step 20: That’s it! You now have a nice sketch of the cartoon character Poof from Nickelodeon's The Fairly OddParents. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look or go for a more finished look by continuing to the next step.
Step 21: For a more finished, inked look, carefully draw over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for the ink to dry, and then get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser. You now have a finished inked drawing of Poof! You can stop here or go to the final step to complete your Poof drawing.
Final Step: For a completely finished Poof drawing, you have to color it. You can use markers, color pencils or even crayons! The skin is peach, but if you don't have peach, use light brown or orange. Color the crown, the star on the wand and the top and bottom part of the wand yellow. Poof's eyes and onesie are purple. The inside of his mouth is brown, and his tongue is pink. That’s it! You now have a completed drawing of the cartoon character Poof from Nickelodeon's The Fairly OddParents.
