How to Draw Grunkle Stan

Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.
Step 1: Start by drawing a rectangle near the top half of the page as a guide for Grunkle Stan's head. The rectangle should tilt a little to the left. Leave enough room at the bottom for the rest of Grunkle Stan's body.
Step 2: Next, draw two intersecting lines across the rectangle, one vertical and one horizontal. The vertical line should be closer to the right side, while the horizontal line should be somewhere near the middle. These will be construction lines that will help you place Grunkle Stan's facial features later on.
Step 3: Under the head, draw a big square as a guide for the top part of Grunkle Stan's body. The top of the square should be behind the head shape. The space from the bottom line of the head to the bottom line of the body should be about the same as the height of the head.
Step 4: Draw a couple of angled lines on either side of the body as a guide for Grunkle Stan's arms. The line on the left should bend near the middle and point down. The line on the right should bend in the middle and point up. Draw a small circle on the end of each line as a guide for the hands. Add five lines to the circle on the right for Grunkle Stan's fingers.
Step 5: Under the body, draw two more lines that bend a bit near the middle as guides forGrunkle Stan's legs. At the end of each line, draw a long oval as guides for the feet.
Step 6: That’s it for the initial sketch! You have the basic shape Grunkle Stan from Disney Channel's Gravity Falls. Now go in and tighten your drawing. From this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.
Step 7: Draw Grunkle Stan's nose on the lower right quadrant of the head. The shape of the nose is similar to a drop of water with a diagonal orientation. The top tip of the shape should be placed right where the construction lines intersect.
Step 8: Draw Grunkle Stan's glasses behind the nose using a series of lines. Draw a thin bar at the top for the top frame of the glasses. Then draw a couple of curved lines on the side and one small straight line in the middle.
Step 9: Inside the shape of the glasses, draw two small circles, one on either side of the vertical construction line. The circle on the right shouldn't be complete because it's behind the nose. Draw a small dot inside each circle for Grunkle Stan's pupils. Draw a small line under the eyes for extra detail.
Step 10: Use the bottom half of the initial rectangle shape as a guide to draw Grunkle Stan's jaw and chin. Follow the basic path of the initial shape but make the corners come in a bit to form the wide chin.
Step 11: Draw Grunkle Stan's mouth under the nose and glasses. The shape of the mouth is similar to a curved sausage. The top, right part of the mouth should be behind the nose. Inside the mouth, add three lines for the teeth. On either side of the mouth, draw slightly bigger curved lines for the smile lines.
Step 12: On either side of Grunkle Stan's head, draw the big ears. The outer shape of the ears is similar to a question mark with a curved bottom for the earlobes. Draw a couple of lines within the shape of the ear for the inner structure.
Step 13: High above the glasses and on either side of the vertical construction line, draw Grunkle Stan's eyebrows using a series of curved lines. On the left side of the head, close to the ear, draw the sideburn, which consists of a line similar to the letter W under the horizontal construction line.
Step 14: Use the top part of the initial rectangle as a guide to draw Grunkle Stan's hat. Make the top part of the hat narrower and the right side come in more. On the upper left side, draw a small circle with a few lines under it for the tassel on the hat.
Step 15: Draw the arm on the left side by using the angled line as a guide. Follow the basic path of the line as you make Grunkle Stan's arm thicker. Draw a curved line on top for the shoulder pad and another under it for a crease. Draw the sleeves at the bottom.
Step 16: Inside the shape of the square, draw Grunkle Stan's torso. The opening of the suit should be similar to the letter V. Then draw the sides using the square as a guide and the bottom ,which is like an upside-down letter V.
Step 17: Add the detail of Grunkle Stan's suit inside the shape of the torso. Draw the thin bow under the chin using a series of short lines. Draw the suit's lapels as a couple of angled lines on the sides of the big V shape. Draw a small circle close to the bottom for the single button and a small crease on the bottom left side of his jacket.
Step 18: Use the angled line on the right as a guide to draw Grunkle Stan's other arm. Follow the basic shape of the guide as you make the arm thicker. Draw the shoulder pad and sleeves as curved lines. Draw a tiny circle near the sleeves for the button.
Step 19: Draw Grunkle Stan's hands by using the initial circles as guides. Within the shape of the circle on the left, draw a few curved lines to represent the fingers forming a fist. Add the hand at the top by drawing a few curved lines for the fingers. Some characters in Gravity Falls, like Grunkle Stan, Soos and most other adults, have four fingers and a thumb. Others, like Dipper, Mabel and Wendy, have three fingers and a thumb.
Step 20: Use the line and oval under the body on the left side as a guide to draw Grunkle Stan's leg and foot. Follow the basic path of the line as you make the shape of the leg thicker. Make the shoe pointier at the front and draw a heel on the back. Draw a couple of curved lines within the shape for the shoe's design.
Step 21: Draw Grunkle Stan's leg and shoe on the right using the same technique. Thicken up the leg as you follow the guide. Use the ovals as guides to draw Grunkle Stan's shoes.

Final Step: For a completely finished Grunkle Stan drawing, you have to color it. You can use markers, color pencils or even crayons! Draw a little fish shape with a circle in its mouth inside the hat. The hat itself should be dark red along with his bow tie. Grunkle Stan's eyebrows, chin and jaw are gray. His skin is peach, but if you don't have peach, use orange or light brown. His nose is orange/pink. His suit and the tassel on his hat are dark brown. The shoes are light brown. That’s it!
