Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.
Step 1: Start by drawing an circle near the top half of the page. This will be the basic shape for Flynn Rider’s head. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It’s just a guide.
Step 2: Under the circle, draw an arc as a guide for Flynn Rider's jaw and chin. The height of the arc should be about half the size of the circle and should point slightly to the right.
Step 3: Next, draw two intersecting lines across the entire head shape, one vertical and one horizontal. Bend the lines so that they contour to the shape. These will be construction lines that will help you place Flynn Rider's facial features later on.
Step 4: When learning how to draw Flynn Rider's eyes, first draw two small ovals as guides. Draw them sitting on top of the horizontal construction line and on either side of the vertical construction line. The oval on the right should be a bit smaller because of perspective.
Step 5: On the left side of Flynn Rider's head, in between the horizontal construction line and the jaw line, draw a curved line similar to a backward letter C as a guide for the ear.
Step 6: Draw two curved lines below Flynn Rider's head as guides for the neck. The line on the left should be a lot longer than the one on the right.
Step 7: That’s it for the initial sketch! You have the basic shape of Flynn Rider, one of the characters from Walt Disney's Tangled. Now go in and tighten your drawing. When learning how to draw Flynn Rider from this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.
Step 8: Tighten the shape of Flynn Rider's eyes by using the small ovals as guides. Draw a thick line line across each eye for the eyelashes. Draw a line above the eyelashes for his half-closed eyelids to give him a sly look.
Step 9: Inside each eye, draw a circle for his irises. Inside each iris draw a tiny circle off to the side to represent glare and a slightly bigger circle in the middle for his pupil. Shade in Flynn Rider's pupil.
Step 10: Above each eye, draw a long curved shape for Flynn Rider's eyebrows. Notice that the eyebrow on the left bends down close to the eye, while the one on the right is curves up and is high up away from the eye. This gives this Tangled character a playful, mischievous look.
Step 11: Flynn is very particular about getting his nose right, so use the construction lines and original circle as guides when learning how to draw Flynn Rider's nose. The top of the nose starts on the edge of the right eye, curves down toward the lower right side of the circle, and then angles toward the vertical construction line. This creates the bridge and tip of his nose. Draw a small line on the left for the side of his nose and two tiny lines on either side of the bridge of the nose for the nostrils.
Step 12: Below the nose, draw his big smile. Flynn Rider's mouth is similar to a long letter D on its side. Draw two small lines on either side for the edges of his teeth. Draw a line on the top left for the smile line and another under the mouth for his lower lip. Tilt the smirk a bit to give him a smug look.
Step 13: Use the original circle and arc under it as guides to draw Flynn Rider's face. Follow the basic path of the lines and dip the line in near his eye to create his cheekbone. The line ends next to his ear for a strong jawline.
Step 14: On the bottom part of Flynn Rider chin, draw his goatee using quick, short strokes to simulate hair. Don't draw every individual hair strand. Just draw the basic outlined shape of the goatee.
Step 15: Learning how to draw Flynn Rider's hair is a bit tricky, so it's divided into three parts. First draw the left side of the hair. Draw the long, thick bangs that come over his forehead, a line across the ear for the edge of the hair and the side burn in between the ear and bangs.
Step 16: Now draw the right side of Flynn Rider's hair as a series of curved lines. Use the top of the original circle and the side of his face as guide for the placement of the hair.
Step 17: Draw the back portion using the original circle as a guide to finish up Flynn Rider's hair. Follow the basic path of the circle and left side of the neck as you draw a bumpy line for the edge of the hair. Inside the shape, draw a few lines for extra detail.
Step 18: Use the initial curved line on the left as a guide when you learn how to draw Flynn Rider's ear. The top of the ear is hidden behind the hair, so only draw the bottom part. Draw a few lines within the shape for the inner structure.
Step 19: Darken the lines that make up Flynn Rider's neck and draw a couple more lines inside the neck to indicate the structure.
Step 20: That’s it! You now have a nice sketch of Flynn Rider, one of the characters from Walt Disney's Tangled. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look or go for a more finished look by continuing to the next.
Step 21: For a more finished, inked look, carefully draw over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for the ink to dry, and then get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser. You now have a finished inked drawing of Flynn Rider from Walt Disney's Tangled! You can stop here or go to the final step to complete your Flynn Rider drawing.
Final Step: For a completely finished Flynn drawing, you have to color it. You can use markers, color pencils or even crayons! Color his hair, eyebrows, eyes and goatee brown. His skin is peach, but if you don’t have peach, improvise and use yellow-orange or light brown. Experiment! That’s it! You've learned how to draw Flynn Rider from Walt Disney's Tangled.
