You may want to open the video in a new tab and use both methods! Take your time and enjoy the process.
Materials You’ll Need
Before starting, gather these basic drawing supplies:
- Pencil (an HB lead pencil is best for light sketches)
- Eraser
- Black ink pen or marker
- Drawing paper
- Colored pencils or markers
Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.
Start with Simple Lines and Shapes

Step 1: To draw Spider-Man from Marvel Comics, start by drawing a big oval in the middle of the page. When drawing the oval, make it narrower at the bottom like an egg. This will be the basic shape for Spider-Man's head.

Step 2: Next, draw two intersecting lines across the oval that divide it evenly. Draw one line vertical and one horizontal. When drawing the horizontal line, curve it up a little bit to follow the shape of the oval. These will be construction lines that will help you place Spider-Man's features later on.

Step 3: Now draw two big right triangles right on top of the horizontal construction line and on either side of the vertical construction line. These are basic shapes for Spider-Man's huge eyes on his mask.
Finish the Guidelines

Step 4: That's it for the initial sketch of Spider-Man from Marvel Comics! You have the basic Spider-Man shape. Now go in and tighten your drawing. From this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.

Step 5: Darken the shape of Spider-Man's head. Draw a more refined jaw line by squaring the bottom of the oval shape a bit so it looks more like a head and less like an egg.

Step 6: Tighten the shapes of Spider-Man's eyes. Using the triangles as drawing guides, round out the triangle shapes, especially the bottom part. Also, make the outlines thicker and darker.
Now Add the Web Design

Step 7: The web design on Spider-Man's mask is a bit tricky, so this section for how to draw Spider-Man's mask has been broken down in a few steps to make it easier. Draw a series of lines on the top part of his head – eight to be exact. Draw two on either side of the vertical construction line that begin where the two construction lines meet. When drawing the other four lines, make them smaller and draw them on the sides of his eyes. Notice that neither the horizontal nor the vertical construction line form part of the webbing.

Step 8: Draw similar lines on the bottom half of Spider-Man's face. On either side of the vertical line, draw two lines that begin where the construction lines meet. Draw four smaller lines on the side of Spider-Man's eyes.

Step 9: Now draw a series of wide curves that connect the lines you just drew. Start out at the top of Spider-Man's head and end just before the point where the construction lines meet. Draw five curves from top to bottom.
Stay Patient and Keep Drawing - You're Almost There!

Step 10: Do the same thing for the bottom part of Spider-Man's head, but this time draw the curves beginning at the chin and go up toward his eyes. Draw a series of about four curves for the bottom part of his mask.

Step 11: That's it! You now have a nice sketch of Spider-Man, the Marvel comic book hero. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look or go for a more finished look by continuing to the next step.
Now It's Time to Color

Step 12: For a more finished, inked look, carefully draw over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for the ink to dry, and then get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser. You now have a finished inked drawing of Spider-Man from Marvel Comics! You can stop here or go to the final step to complete your Spider-Man drawing.

Final Step: For a completely finished Spider-Man drawing, you have to color it. You can use markers, color pencils or even crayons! Spider-man is very easy to color – just color his mask red and leave his eyes blank. That's it! You now have a completed drawing of Spider-Man from Marvel Comics.
