How to Draw Dr. Eggman

Use the video and step-by-step drawing instructions below to learn how to draw Doctor Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik from Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog video games and cartoons. A new cartoon drawing tutorial is uploaded every week, so stay tooned!

Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.

Draw Dr. Eggman 1

Step 1: Start by drawing a circle near the middle of the page. You may want to orient the paper horizontally so that you have room on the sides for Dr. Eggman's big mustache. This circle will be the basic shape for Dr. Eggman's head. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It’s just a guide.

Step 2: Inside the circle, draw two intersecting lines, one vertical and one horizontal. These are construction lines that will help you place Dr. Eggman's facial features later on.

Step 3: Right where the construction lines intersect, draw a shape similar to an egg or oval as a guide for Dr. Eggman's nose.

Step 4: Sitting on top of the horizontal construction line and on either side of the vertical construction line, draw two small circles as guides for Dr. Eggman's eyes. The circles should be behind the nose, so don't draw the complete circles.

Step 5: That’s it for the initial sketch! You have the basic shape of Doctor Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik from Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog video games. Now go in and tighten your Eggman drawing. From this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.

Step 6: Use the egg shape as a guide to draw Dr. Eggman's nose. Make it narrower at the top and bottom and draw a couple of arcs on the sides.

Step 7: Drawing Dr. Eggman's mustache is a bit tricky, so it's divided into four steps. First draw the top part of the left side as a series of spikes curving up. The line starts on the side of the nose and curves under the eye. You can make the mustache as long or as big as you want, and you can make it bushier by adding more spikes.

Step 8: Now draw the bottom part of the left side of Dr. Eggman's mustache. Draw the spikes that come to an end on the side of the nose. This time the spikes should curve down.

Step 9: Draw the top part of the right side of Dr. Eggman's mustache the same way. Start the line on the side of the nose, under the eye and draw a series of curved spikes to the right. Try to draw this side similar to the other side in length and width, but they don't have to be exactly the same.

Step 10: Finish up Dr. Eggman's mustache by drawing the bottom part of the right side. Remember to curve the spikes downward this time.

Step 11: Draw a couple of curved lines over each eye for Dr. Eggman's furrowed brow. Robotnik doesn't have hair on his brow. Angle the lines toward the nose for a menacing look.

Step 12: Darken the initial circles to create Dr. Eggman's glasses. His glasses clip to his nose, so they don't have earpieces. Draw a few diagonal lines within the circles to represent reflection.

Step 13: Draw a line under Dr. Eggman's mustache for the shape of his mouth. Notice how the bottom corners of the mouth touch the edge of the original circle.

Step 14: Inside the shape of the mouth, draw a long, horizontal line to represent where Dr. Eggman's teeth come together. Draw a few smaller vertical lines along the horizontal line to indicate the individual teeth. Shade in a small section on the sides of the mouth to indicate where the teeth end.

Draw Dr. Eggman 15

Step 15: Use the initial circle as a guide to complete the rest of Dr. Eggman's head. Darken the top part of the circle except for the section behind the brow on the right. Make the bottom part of the head flatter and more parallel to the shape of the mouth.

Step 16: Draw a few lines above his head for Dr. Eggman's goggles. Draw two rectangle-like shapes on either side of the vertical line, then draw another line parallel to the head for the strap.

Step 17: Draw a few small, vertical lines within the shape of the goggles for extra detail. On top of the shape, draw another rectangle-like shape for the goggles' lenses.

Step 18: That’s it! You now have a nice sketch of Dr. Eggman. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look or go for a more finished look by continuing to the step below.

Step 19: For a more finished, inked look, carefully draw over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for the ink to dry, and then get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser. You now have a finished inked drawing of Dr. Eggman! You can stop here or go to the final step to complete your Robotnik drawing.

Final Step: For a completely finished Robotnik drawing, you have to color it. You can use markers, color pencils or even crayons! Color his goggles gray. His skin is peach, but if you don't have peach, improvise and use yellow-orange or light brown. Experiment! For his glasses alternate between light blue and dark blue. His nose is pink. His mustache is light brown with some dark brown in the bottom as shading. That’s it! You now have a completed drawing of the villain Dr. Eggman from the Sonic the Hedgehog video games and cartoons.
