To draw Raven step by step, follow along with the video tutorial below and pause the video after each step to go at your own pace. You may find it easier to follow the step-by-step drawings below. The new lines in each step are shown in red, and each step is explained in the text below the photo, so you'll know exactly what to draw in each step. You may want to open the video in a new tab and use both drawing methods! Take your time and draw at your own pace.
The written step-by-step video tutorial:
Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.
Step 1: Draw a small circle near the top of the page as a guide for Raven's head. Sketch lightly at first so that it's easy to erase if you make a mistake. If you're struggling to draw the circle, trace the outer rim of a coin, a lid or any other object with a circular edge. Draw a small U-shaped arc under the head as a guide for this Fortnite character's jaw and chin.
Step 2: Inside the head, draw two intersecting lines as guides to help you place Raven's facial features later. Under the head, draw two short lines as guides for the neck.
Step 3: Draw a big oval under the head as a guide for the chest. First make four small marks to indicate the oval's height and width. Then connect the marks using curved lines. Pay close attention to the size of Raven's chest in relation to the head. Don't make the oval too big.
Step 4: Draw two vertical lines under the oval, one on each side, as guides for Raven's midsection. Connect the lines at the bottom using a horizontal line to complete the guide for this Fortnite character's midsection.
Step 5: Under the midsection, draw two short lines on either side as a guide for Raven's lower torso. Finish the guide by drawing a V-shaped line at the bottom.
Step 6: On the top, right side of the torso, draw a circle as a guide for the shoulder. Under the circle, draw a U-shaped line as a guide for the bicep portion of Raven's arm.
Step 7: Under the bicep, draw an oval-like shape as a guide for this Fortnite character's forearm. Draw a cylinder- like shape under that as a guide for the wrist. At the bottom, draw a small circle as guide for Raven's fist.
Step 8: On the left side, draw a tilted U-shaped line as a guide for Raven's other bicep. Below that, draw two lines that curve to the top, left as guides for the forearm and wrist. At the tip, draw a circle as a guide for the hand. This won't be a fist, so make the circle small.
Step 9: Under the torso, on the right side, draw long, U-shaped line as a guide for the top part of Raven's leg. Under the leg, draw a small circle as a guide for the knee.
Step 10: Under the knee, draw a two vertical lines for the shin section of this Fortnite character's leg. At the bottom, draw a rectangle- like shape as a guide for the foot pointing forward.
Step 11: On the left side, draw a big U-shaped line as a guide for the top part of the second leg. Under the U- shaped line, draw a small circular shape as a guide for Raven's knee.
Step 12: Under the knee, draw a circular shape as a guide for the calf section of the leg. Under the calf muscle, draw two short, vertical lines for the lower shin section of Raven's leg. At the bottom, draw a triangle- like shape as a guide for the foot pointing to the left.
That's it for the guides! For the next steps, use darker lines for a more defined drawing.
Step 13: For this Fortnite character's eyes, lightly sketch two small ovals inside the head.. When you get the size and position of the eyes right, darken the lines. Use the initial construction lines as guides to help you with the placement and size of Raven's eyes.
Step 14: Use a series of curved lines around Raven's eyes for the hood opening. Above the eyes, draw a line similar to an upside- down letter V. On the right side, continue drawing the line downward. Then curve the line left under the head. Then finally add the left side of the hood opening as an angled line.
Step 15: On the lower, right side, draw a curved line for the base of the feathers on Raven's collar. Along the right side of that line, draw the feathers as thin, pointy shapes. The Fortnite character's feathers should be wide at the base and gradually get thinner toward the pointy tip. Use jagged lines for the sides of the feathers. Point the top feather upward.
Step 16: Darken the path of the initial circle to create the outer edge of the hood. Make the top taller. On the left side, draw the outer edge of Raven's hood parallel to the inner edge.
Step 17: Under the hood, draw a series of curved lines for the bandana around Raven's neck. The overlapping lines represent wrinkles and folds on the bandana. Draw an angled line at the bottom for the bandana's pointy tip.
Step 18: Draw more pointy shapes around the hood for the rest of the feathers on Raven's collar. The feathers should overlap each other a bit. Don't make them too long. The base of the feathers should be wide, the sides jagged and the tips pointy.
Step 19: Use the shapes on the top, right as guides to draw Raven's first arm. Darken the top portion of the guides to create a curved line similar to an upside- down letter U. Draw a series of jagged lines along the bottom for the ragged shirt sleeve. Draw a few curved lines along the left side of the shoulder for the backpack's straps. Inside the shirt sleeve, draw a circle and a couple of x's to give this Fortnite character's shirt a hole and stitches. Below the shirt sleeve, darken the outer edges of the guides for the rest of the bicep.
Step 20: Use the shapes below the bicep as guides to draw the rest of the arm. Darken the outer edges of the guides to create the shape of the arm. Inside the arm, draw a series of overlapping curved lines for the straps. Darken the circle at the bottom but make the lower edge wavier for the knuckles. Draw a few short lines on the left side of Raven's fist for the folded fingers and thumb. Draw a curved line and some circles on top of the hand for the metal plate.
Step 21: Draw a long, horizontal line across the torso line for the top edge of Raven's belt. Near the left side, draw a small square with a circle inside for the buckle. To the right of the buckle, draw a bigger rectangle for a pouch. Draw a line though the middle of the pouch for a closing flap. Add another belt below this one by drawing another horizontal line. Add another small square close to the left edge for the belt's buckle.
Step 22: Darken the outer edges of the guides in the middle to create the Fortnite character's torso. Add a couple of curved lines on the top, right side for the strap on Raven's backpack. Draw a small rectangle on the strap for the metal fastener.
Step 23: Draw a series of parallel line inside the torso for the rest of the straps. There's one main strap under the chest and a few smaller straps on the left side. Don't overlap Raven's bandana as you draw the straps. Draw a small rectangle hanging from the main horizontal strap for a pouch.
Step 24: Draw a couple of angled lines above the shoulder on the right for the backpack. Draw a series of curved lines around the backpack for more feathers. Draw some thin, curved lines under Raven's arm for more feathers.
Step 25: Draw a thin arc on the top, left side for Raven's other tattered sleeve. Darken the outer edges of the initial guides to create the shape of the arm. Draw a few curved lines within the shape of the arm for more detail on the Fortnite character's costume.
Step 26: Draw a couple of curved lines at the bottom of the small circle for Raven's hand. On the top, right side of the small circle, draw a thin, curved shape with a pointy tip for the thumb. On the top, left side, draw a slightly longer and thinner curved shape with a pointy tip for the pinky finger. To the left of the pinky, draw more thin, curved shapes for the rest of the fingers. The tips of all the fingers should be pointy, and they should all curve to the right. The farther left the fingers are, the less visible they'll be. Only the tip of Raven's index finger should be visible.
Step 27: Draw more feathers right under Raven's belt. The feathers consist of thin, long shapes with pointy tips. The feathers on the right should be a bit wider because of the angle of the body. Don't make these shapes too short, the feathers should be pretty long. In the middle, draw an uneven line for the bottom part of Raven's tattered shirt.
Step 28: Use the shapes on the right as guides to draw the tattered cloth over the leg. Draw a zigzag line diagonally across the leg for the inner edge of the cloth. On the right side, draw a long line for the outer edge of the cloth. Inside the shape , draw an angled line and a few ovals for more tears and holes on the cloth. Below that, draw another angled line that goes down to Raven's foot for another layer of cloth.
Step 29: Darken the left side of the guide on the right to create the inner edge of this Fortnite character's leg. Darken the knee section of the leg but make the shape blockier for the metal armor. Add some lines inside the shape for the design on the metal. Don't overlap the cloth. Darken the edges of the guide at the bottom to create the foot. Draw a series of curved lines inside the shape of the foot for the metal plates on it.
Step 30: Darken the guide on the left side to create the top part of Raven's leg. Draw a few curved, horizontal lines across the leg for a couple straps.
Step 31: Use the shapes at the bottom as guides to draw the rest of Raven's leg and foot. Draw an angled line to the left of the knee for the metal armor. Darken the outer edges of the guides. At the bottom, where the leg meets the foot, draw a small rectangle for another metal plate. Draw a series of diagonal lines inside the shape of the leg for the straps that hold the armor in place. Darken the shape at the bottom to create the foot pointing to the left. Draw some more curved lines across the foot for more metal plates.
Step 32: On the left side, draw a couple of long lines that end at a point at the bottom for more of Raven's tattered cloth.
Step 33: For a more finished look, carefully go over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Try not to smudge the ink or graphite with your hand.
Final Step: After inking, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.
Final Step: Color your Raven drawing using color pencils, markers or crayons! Use purple around the eyes. Leave the insides blank. Use black for the inside of the hood. Don't overlap the purple on the eyes so that it represents glow. Color the bandana, the feathers and the pants purple too. Color the straps on Raven's chest brown. Use light gray for the metal armor on the hands and feet. Leave a few strips on the armor blank to represent shine. Use dark gray and black for the rest of the body. Use a bit of dark gray over the purple to create shadows.
