The written step-by-step video tutorial:

Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.

Step 1: Draw the star on the Christmas tree by first drawing a small shape similar to an upside -down letter V. On the sides, draw two more angled lines that are similar to less/greater- than signs. Below that, draw the two bottom spikes that are like the letter V , only tilted a bit. A star shape can be tricky, so practice it a few times before starting on your actual Christmas tree drawing.

Step 2: Under the star, draw a line that slopes to the left for the top part of the Christmas tree. Draw another line under the star that slopes to the right this time for the other side of the tree. The lines should be roughly the same length. Add a few spikes at the bottom to represent pine needles.

Step 3: Below that, draw two more lines that slope outwardly for the middle section of the Christmas tree. These lines should be a bit longer than the top lines to make the middle wider. Add some small, curved lines at the bottom.

Step 4: Below that, add two more sloping lines for the bottom of the Christmas tree. You can add more sections to your tree if you'd like. Draw small, V-shaped lines at the bottom of each line for detail on the pine needles. Close off the shape at the bottom by drawing wide, curved lines.

Step 5: Here's the fun part: Trim your tree! Draw a series of long, curved lines across the three sections of the Christmas tree to create ribbons. The curved ribbons should be similar to the letter W, only wider and curvier. You can add as many curves to your ribbon as you'd like; it doesn't have to be perfect.

Step 6: Draw a series of small circles throughout the tree for the Christmas ornaments. On top of each ornament, draw a tiny square for the hangers. Leave enough space on your Christmas tree for the other decorations.

Step 7: Draw a few bows on the empty sections of the tree. The bows consist of triangle-like shapes for the sides and longer, rectangular shapes for the strips hanging down. You can also draw a small circle in the middle of your bows for the knot and make the sides rounder. For a simpler Christmas tree, you can skip the bows and just add more of the sphere ornaments.

Step 8: If you have empty space left on your Christmas tree, add some candy canes! The candy canes should be similar in shape to a thick, upside-down letter J.

Step 9: Fill out the rest of your Christmas tree with smaller circles for more ornaments. Don't worry too much about the placement of these circles. Just add them randomly wherever you have space. You can also skip this step if your tree is getting too crowded.

Step 10: Add a Christmas gift under the tree, on the left side, by first drawing three short, vertical lines. The line in the middle should be slightly lower. Connect the lines at the bottom and top. Finish drawing the gift box by adding two more lines at the top. Add a ribbon at the top using curved lines. It's okay to overlap the lines for the box and tree. Draw a few straight lines on the sides of the gift box for the ribbon.

Step 11: Draw another Christmas gift under the tree, near the middle, using the same technique. This time however, make the beginning vertical lines shorter and space them out more to create a longer box. Add some lines near the top to create a lid. Draw a flower-like shape at the top for a bow. Draw a few more vertical lines on the sides of the box for ribbon.

Step 12: Add another gift under the tree on the right side the same way. This gift is behind the gift in the middle, so don't overlap those lines. If you'd like, continue to add more Christmas gifts behind the other gifts.

Step 13: If you have space under the Christmas tree, in the middle, draw the trunk using a couple of lines.

Step 14: Using a pen or marker, carefully go over the lines to make your drawing permanent. When you ink the bottom part of the tree, don't overlap the lines for the gifts and bows. After inking, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.

Final Step: Color your Christmas tree drawing using color pencils, markers or crayons! Use yellow for the star and red for the ribbon. Use different colors to color the round ornaments. Leave a tiny section on the side of each ornament blank to represent shine. You can also color the Christmas tree's ornaments a single color depending on what you want your tree to look like. Use red to color the bows and to add stripes to the candy canes.

Use green to color the tree. Be careful to not overlap the decorations as you color the tree. Color lightly at first, and then gradually build up to the darker color that you like. Finally, color the Christmas gifts any way you want! I used red-orange with yellow ribbon on the first one. The second one is blue with gray ribbon, and the third one is yellow with red ribbon. Use brown for the trunk. Don't forget to pause the video to draw your Christmas tree at your own pace!
