The written step-by-step video tutorial:

Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.

How to Draw Cartoon Boat Ship 1

Step 1: Draw a curved, vertical line for the front part of the boat. From the top of that line, lightly sketch a longer line that slopes to the right for the top part of the boat. The longer this line is, the longer the boat will be. When you get the length right, darken the line. On the right side, draw a smaller vertical line for the back of the boat.

Step 2: At the front, draw another curved, vertical line to make the ship wider and three-dimensional. The top part should angle a bit to create a pointy tip.

Step 3: On the bottom of the front side, draw a series of curved lines for the water splashing. On the left side, the lines for the water should curve to the left, and they should curve right on the right side. Add a few wavy lines at the bottom for the surface of the water. Now draw a series of wavy lines along the bottom all the way to the back of the boat for the surface of the water.

Step 4: Draw a couple of lines along the top part of the boat for a striped design. The stripe on the left of the boat will be short, while the stripe on the right will be long. The stripes should be parallel to the top edge of the boat. Sketch lightly at first. The stripe should gradually get narrower toward the back. When you get the shape right, darken the lines.

Step 5: Draw three to five circles inside the stripe for windows. The circles should gradually get bigger the closer they are to the front of the ship.

Step 6: Inside each circle, draw a smaller circle for the interior portion of the boat's windows.

Step 7: At the top of the ship, near the middle, draw two vertical lines for the first part of the structure called the bridge. Add a shorter line on the right side for a total of three vertical lines. Close off the blocky shape at the top with a couple of horizontal lines.

Step 8: On top of the bridge, draw a couple of lines for a thin roof. The roof should bend near the middle, and then slope down to the right.

Step 11: On top of the bridge, draw two vertical lines with a curved line on top for one of the ship's smokestacks. The shape of the smokestack is basically a cylinder. Draw a curved line inside for a stripe.

Step 13: Above the ship's smokestacks, draw a series of curved lines for the smoke. Curve the smoke to the right so that it appears to be blowing in the wind as the shop moves forward. You can also draw small individual clouds of smoke at the top instead of one long cloud.

Step 14: Using a pen or marker, carefully draw over the lines to make your boat drawing permanent. After inking, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.

Final Step: Color your boat drawing using colored pencils, markers or crayons! Use gray for the smoke. You can color your boat however you'd like. For this look, use black and red for the smokestacks. Use light blue for the windows and water. You can color in as much as you want of the water or just a little bit like this. Use gray for the roof on the bridge and for the top part of the boat. Color the stripe on the boat red. Don't overlap the exterior parts of the windows. Use blue or dark blue for the rest of the boat. Don't forget to pause the video after each step to draw at your own pace.
