The written step-by-step video tutorial:
For the first few steps, don't press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin.
Step 1: Draw two short, diagonal lines for the cat's eyebrows. Sketch lightly at first. When you get the angles right, darken the lines. Bend the tips to emphasize the furrowed brow. Under each eyebrow, draw a curved line for the bottom part of the eyes. The overall shape of each eye should be similar to a triangle.
Step 2: Inside each eye, near the left side, draw a small V-shaped line for the pupils.
Step 3: Below the eyes, draw a small triangle shape for the nose. Curve the top edge a bit.
Step 4: Under the nose, draw a wavy line that stretches toward the right side for the first part of the mouth. Now draw a similar line that stretches to the left for the second half of the top of the mouth. Under those two lines, draw a longer V-shaped line for the bottom part of the mouth.
Step 5: Inside the mouth, at the top, draw two V-shaped lines for the teeth. Below that, draw two curved lines for the tongue. Don't overlap the teeth.
Step 6: High above the eyes, draw a curved line made up of quick, short strokes for the top of the head. On either side of that line, draw a big triangle- shaped line for the ears. Add an extra line to the ear on the right for the ear's opening.
Step 7: Draw the sides of the head using a series of curved lines. Use quick, short strokes as you draw the sides for a fur-like texture. Draw the bottom part of the head parallel to the bottom part of the mouth. You can make the strokes longer for shaggier fur.
Step 8: To the right of the head, draw a long vertical line for the first part of the front leg. Curve the line a bit. The longer this line is, the longer the leg will be. Add a similar line to the right for the other edge of the leg. Use quick, short strokes for fur. Draw an arc at the bottom for the foot. Add a couple of lines inside to separate the toes.
Step 9: Add the other front leg by first drawing a small vertical line under the head. Below that, draw two horizontal lines for the bottom half of the raised leg. Curve the bottom line up to create the joint and use quick, short strokes for the fur. Add the U-shaped paw on the left. Draw a couple of short lines inside for the toes.
Step 10: Under the head, between the legs, draw a line that curves down for the neck. To the right of the legs, draw an arc for the bottom part of the body. Now draw the top of the body as an arc that's made up of quick, short strokes for the fur. Use vertical strokes because the fur is standing up. You can make your strokes longer if you'd like.
Step 11: Add the hind leg by first drawing a curved line on the lower, right side. Now draw a couple of vertical lines for the middle section of the leg. Add the top part of the leg as a vertical line made up of quick, short strokes. Draw the paw at the bottom as a small arc with a couple of lines inside for the toes.
Step 12: On the left side, draw the other hind leg that same way. The first hind leg will block the top, right side of this hind leg, so don't draw that section.
Step 13: On the top, right side of the body, draw a thin, tall arc for the tail. The arc should be made up of quick, short strokes to emphasize the fur standing up. The strokes should have a horizontal orientation on the sides and a vertical orientation at the top.
Step 14: Using a pen or marker, carefully go over the lines to make your drawing permanent. After inking, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.
Final Step: Color your drawing using color pencils, markers or even crayons! Use black for the body. Leave a few edges white so that the line work stands out. Push down hard on your pencil to get a rich, dark black. Use yellow and green for the eyes, pink for the nose and tongue, and brown for the inside of the mouth. You can continue adding black until you reach the darkness level that you want.
