Draw Sleeping Beauty

Use the video and step-by-step drawing instructions below to learn how to draw Aurora/Briar Rose from Disney's Sleeping Beauty. A new drawing tutorial is uploaded every week, so stay tooned!

Intro: Start drawing Sleeping Beauty off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.

Draw Sleeping Beauty Step 1

Step 1: To draw this Disney princess, start with an egg shape that points down in the middle of the page. This is the basic shape for Sleeping Beauty's head. Add two curved, wavy lines at the bottom of that shape. These will be the basic shapes for Sleeping Beauty’s neck and shoulders.

Draw Sleeping Beauty Step 2

Step 2: Next, draw two intersecting lines across the egg shape, one vertical and one horizontal line. When drawing the lines, bend them so they follow the contour of the shape. Draw two smaller lines in between the horizontal construction line and the bottom of the egg. These will be construction lines that will help you place Sleeping Beauty’s facial features later on.

Draw Sleeping Beauty Step 3

Step 3: Now draw guides for Sleeping Beauty’s hair. Starting at the top of the egg shape, draw another horizontal line that comes out of the shape, curves up, grazes the top of the head and cascades down. As the line comes down, it should follow a similar shape as Sleeping Beauty’s head, neck and shoulder.

Draw Sleeping Beauty Step 4

Step 4: Draw a guide for the right side of Sleeping Beauty’s hair by adding a wavy line that starts at the curve created in step 3 and comes down to meet her shoulder. Above Sleeping Beauty’s head draw a triangle that will represent her crown.

Draw Sleeping Beauty Step 5

Step 5: On top of the horizontal construction line and on either side of the vertical construction line, draw two ovals with pointed ends for this Disney princess’ eyes. Draw the oval on the right smaller because of perspective and should be slightly grazing the vertical construction line.

Draw Sleeping Beauty Step 6

Step 6: That's it for the initial sketch of Aurora/Briar Rose from Disney's Sleeping Beauty! You have the basic shape for Sleeping Beauty, so now go in and tighten your drawing. From this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.

Draw Sleeping Beauty Step 7

Step 7: Darken in the shape of Sleeping Beauty’s eyes and give her thick eyelashes. Also draw a small curve above each of Aurora's eyes to represent eyelids.

Draw Sleeping Beauty Step 8

Step 8: Finish Sleeping Beauty’s eyes by drawing a series of three circles, one inside the other that will represent her iris, pupil and glare.

Draw Sleeping Beauty Step 9

Step 9: Draw in an angled curve above each eye to give Sleeping Beauty eyebrows. Draw the curves should thick near the vertical construction line and make them come to a point near the sides of Sleeping Beauty's head.

Draw Sleeping Beauty Step 10

Step 10: Draw Sleeping Beauty’s nose as a line that starts at the right eyebrow, grazes the right eye and angles out before ending at the top of the small horizontal line. Draw a tiny curve on the left side for her nostril.

Draw Sleeping Beauty Step 11

Step 11: Using a series of curves right on top of the small horizontal line below her nose, draw Sleeping Beauty’s lips. Her upper lip is similar to a wide letter M with a curve underneath it. Draw Sleeping Beauty's lower lip as two wide letter Us on top of each other.

Draw Sleeping Beauty Step 12

Step 12: Sleeping Beauty’s hair is tricky, so it’s divided into two parts. First, tighten the front of her hair or bangs by using the shape created earlier and darkening it. Draw a series of rounded spikes and a swirl in the middle for detail.

Draw Sleeping Beauty Step 13

Step 13: Now, using the guides created earlier, draw in a series of curved lines on either side of Sleeping Beauty's head to represent her hair flowing down over her shoulders.

Draw Sleeping Beauty Step 14

Step 14: Tighten the shape of Sleeping Beauty’s face by using the egg shape as a guide and drawing it a bit narrower. Sleeping Beauty has a skinny face with a pointy chin. Darken in her neck and shoulders as well.

Draw Sleeping Beauty Step 15

Step 15: Using a series of curves and pointy edges, draw in Sleeping Beauty’s crown by following the guide drawn earlier. Don’t forget the vertical line that splits the crown. Using a U-shaped curve and a V shape, draw in Sleeping Beauty’s necklace below her neck.

Draw Sleeping Beauty Step 16

Step 16: That’s it! You now have a nice sketch of Aurora/Briar Rose from Disney's Sleeping Beauty. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look or go for a more finished look by continuing to the step below.

Draw Sleeping Beauty Step 17

Step 17: For a more finished, inked look, carefully go over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for the ink to dry, and then get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser. You now have a finished inked drawing of Sleeping Beauty! You can stop here or go to the final step to complete your drawing of Sleeping Beauty.

Draw Sleeping Beauty Completed Drawing

Final Step: For a completely finished Sleeping Beauty drawing, you have to color it. You can use markers, color pencils or even crayons! Color her hair yellow, her eyebrows light brown, her eyes blue and her lips pink. Sleeping Beauty’s crown and necklace are a light brown or orange color. Her skin is a peach color, but if you don’t have peach, improvise and use yellow-orange or light brown. Experiment! That’s it! You now have a completed drawing of Sleeping Beauty.
