The written step-by-step video tutorial:
Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.
Step 1: Draw a circle near the top of the paper as a guide for Donald Duck's head. First make four marks to determine the circle's height and width. Then connect the marks using curved lines. If you're struggling to draw the circle, just trace the outer rim of a circular object like a coin or a lid.
Step 2: Inside the circle, draw a curved, horizontal line near the bottom as a guide to place Donald Duck's facial features. Draw a curved, vertical line near the left edge for another construction guide.
Step 3: On the lower, right side of the circle, draw a small, thin arc for the top part of Donald Duck's bill. The arc should be thin on the right side. Then the line should curve and end under the circle. At the bottom, draw a wider curved line for the lower part of the bill. The shape of this guide should be wide at the top and narrower at the bottom.
Step 4: On the top, right side of the head, draw an oval-like shape as a guide for the Donald Duck's hat. Make the top part wider.
Step 5: Below the head, draw a line that slopes to the left for the top part of the guide for the body. On the right side, draw a long, curved line and on the left side draw a shorter line. At the bottom, draw a curved, horizontal line to close off the guide for the top of Donald's torso. Use two short lines to connect the torso to the head and create the guide for the neck.
Step 6: Draw a small circle on the lower, left corner of the torso as a guide for the first hand. Draw an angled line from the small circle to the top, left corner of the torso as a guide for Donald Duck's arm.
Step 7: On the top, right corner of Donald Duck's torso, draw a line that slopes up with a small circle at the end as a guide for the other hand and arm.
Step 8: Draw a long, curved line below the torso as a guide for the lower part of Donald Duck's body. The line should be similar to a big letter C with the bottom end extending to the bottom, right corner of the torso.
Step 9: Under the body, on the left side, draw a small line for the leg. Below that, draw a big shape for the foot. The guide for Donald Duck's foot should be flat at the top, and sort of V-shaped at the bottom but rounder.
Step 10: To the right, draw a similar shape for Donald's other foot. First start with a line at the top for the leg. The guide for the foot should be flat at the top and round at the bottom, similar to a triangle with rounded corners.
That's it for the guides! For the next steps, use darker lines for a more defined drawing.
Step 11: Draw a wavy line across the horizontal guide line inside Donald Duck's head for the top part of the bill. The line should curve up where the vertical construction line is and creating a hill-like shape. Sketch lightly at first and only darken the line when you get the shape right. Curve the outer ends up and add a couple of dips in the middle where Donald Duck's eyes are going to be.
Step 12: Darken the thin, curved line on the right side of the head for the second part of the bill. Curve the line up toward the head instead of darkening the path of the guide. Darken the bottom part of the guide so that it overlaps the previous line a bit and curves the front edge of the bill. Curve the line up all the way on the left side and add a tiny line at the end for Donald Duck's smile line.
Step 13: Darken the guide at the bottom for the lower part of Donald Duck's bill. Inside, draw a parallel line at the bottom to make the edge thicker. At the top, draw a V-shaped line for the tongue.
Step 14: Inside the head, above the bill's dip on the left, draw a tall arc for Donald Duck's first eye. Pay attention to how big the eye is. It should take up a big area inside the head. To the right, draw a slightly smaller arc for Donald's other eye.
Step 15: Inside each eye, near the lower, left side, draw a small oval for the pupils. Shade in the eyes but don't push down too hard with your pencil. At the top of each eye, draw a small arc for Donald Duck's thick brows. The brows should be very close to the edge of the initial circle guide.
Step 16: At the top of the head, draw three small, spike-like shapes for the feathery tufts. Darken the rest of the initial circle to create the shape of Donald Duck's head.
Step 17: Use the shape on top of the head as a guide to draw the hat. First draw a small, thin, curved shape directly on top of Donald Duck's head for the base of the hat. Darken the path of the guide but add an extra curved line at the bottom to create a crease on the hat. At the bottom, draw a small, angled line similar to a tall letter W for the hat's ribbon.
Step 18: Draw a small, curved line to the left of the neck for the first part of the collar. Below the neck, draw a line that slopes to the right for the shirt's opening. At the end of the line, lightly sketch a small shape similar to a triangle for the first part of the bow. When you get the shape right, darken the lines. Curve the middle section to create creases. To the right, draw a curved line for the bow's knot. Then draw a line to the neck for the opening on Donald Duck's shirt. Farther to the right, draw another small, triangle-like shape for the other side of the bow. Curve the middle of the shape for the bow's crease. At the top, draw a couple more lines for the collar.
Step 19: Use the angled line on the left side of the body as a guide to draw Donald Duck's first arm. Follow the path of the guide and draw the shape of the arm around it. At the bottom, overlap the small circle with a curved line to create the shirt's sleeve. Don't make the arm too thick. Draw a couple of short, curved lines on the sleeve for a stripe.
Step 20: Draw a small arc to the right of the small circle at the bottom for a folded-back finger. Darken the circle but make it more angular for Donald Duck's hand. Add an extra arc on the left for another finger.
Step 21: Darken the remaining guide for the torso to create Donald Duck's shirt. Add a curved line at the bottom for a crease. Draw a couple of lines from the shoulder to the bow to complete the shirt's collar.
Step 22: Use the sloping line on the right as a guide to draw Donald Duck's other arm. Draw the shape of the arm around the guide line. Make the top part extra skinny for the wrist. At the top, draw a curved line for the loose sleeve around the wrist. The bottom of Donald Duck's shirt should be wide. At the top, draw a couple of curved lines for the stripe on the sleeve.
Step 23: Use the circle at the top as a guide to draw Donald Duck's waving hand. On the left side of the circle, draw a short arc that curves to the left for the thumb. At the top, draw a longer, thinner arc that slopes to the right for the first finger. Donald's finger should be wide at the bottom and thin at the top. Add a slightly longer finger on the right. Add a smaller, final finger on the right. Darken the side of the circle for the hand and add a small, curved line inside.
Step 24: Draw a couple of lines around the vertical guide on the left to create Donald Duck's first leg. Draw a couple of curved lines at the top for the feathery part of the body that connects to the leg. Darken the shape at the bottom to create the flat foot. Make the left edge wavier than the initial guide to create the toes.
Step 25: Darken the curved line above the legs to create the bottom part of Donald Duck's torso. Draw two curved, spike-like shapes on the top, left side for the tail feathers. Don't overlap the shape of the leg as you darken the rest of the lower part of Donald Duck's body.
Step 26: Draw the shape of the leg around the guide on the right using a couple of sloping lines. Darken the bottom shape for Donald Duck's foot but make the right edge wavier for the toes.
Step 27: Go over the final sketch lines with a pen, marker or any other type of permanent ink. Take your time and be careful when you ink to avoid any accidents. After the ink dries, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser for a cleaner drawing.
Final Step: Color your Donald Duck drawing using colored pencils, markers or crayons! Use blue for the hat and shirt. Use black for the base of the hat and the ribbon. Use yellow-orange for the beak and legs. Color the inside of the mouth light brown and the tongue pink. Use red for the bow, yellow for the stripes and light blue for Donald's eyes.
