How to Draw Pumbaa form The Lion King

Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.
Step 1: Draw a big circle in the middle of the paper as a guide for Pumbaa the warthog's head. To draw the circle, first make four small marks to indicate the height and width. Then connect the marks using curved lines. Sketch lightly at first so that it's easy to erase if you make mistake. If you're having a hard time drawing the circle, trace the outer rim of a glass, a lid or any other object with a circular edge.
Step 2: Inside the circle, near the top, draw a curved line as a guide to help you place Pumbaa's facial features later. Add a shorter, vertical construction line above the horizontal one.
Step 3: Draw the guide for Pumbaa's body by first making a small mark to the right of the head. Then connect the mark to the head using curved lines to form the arc-like guide for the body. Pay attention to the size of this arc in relation to the size of the circle.
Step 4: Under the body, on the left side, draw two short lines that bend at the ends as guides for the front legs. Pumbaa has short legs, so don't make these lines too long.
Step 5: On the right side of the body, draw two more short lines as guides for the hind legs. Bend the lines to indicate where the joints and feet will be later on. On the top, right side of the body, draw a long, curved line as a guide for Pumbaa's tail.
That's it for the guides! For the next steps, use darker lines for a more defined drawing.
Step 6: Inside the head, at the top, draw two small arcs for the eyes. Draw the arcs on top of the horizontal construction line and on either side of the vertical line. Add a short line under each arc to complete the shapes of Pumbaa's eyes. The inner tips of the eyes should dip down a bit toward the middle. Inside each eye, draw a small dot for the pupils. Place the pupils close to the right edge of the eyes. Above each eye, draw a small arc that's parallel to the eyes to create the brows.
Step 7: Draw Pumbaa's snout by first lightly sketching a line that starts at the eye on the left, and then curves to the left. Notice how the line dips first, and then extends to the outside of the big circle. At the tip of the line, lightly sketch a big triangle-like shape for the actual nose. Pay attention to how big this triangle is in relation to the big circle and how it overlaps it. When you get the both the shape and the curved line right, darken them. As you darken the curved line, make it overlap onto itself a couple of times for the wrinkles on the snout.
Step 8: Inside the nose, draw a couple of oval-like shapes for the nostrils. Sketch lightly at first. When you get the shapes right, darken the lines. Pumbaa's nostrils should be pointy at the top. Draw a curved line inside each for extra detail. On the lower, right side of the nose, draw a line that curves to the right for the rest of the muzzle. Don't draw this line too far to the right because that's where Pumbaa's tusks will be.
Step 9: Draw the first tusk to the left of the nose using a couple of curved lines. The lines should be long and meet at the top to form the tip of the tusk. To the right of the nose, draw Pumbaa's other tusk the same way but curve the lines to the right instead. The tip of this tusk should almost touch the eye on the left side.
Step 10: To the right of the tusk, draw a short line that almost touches the eye for the top of Pumbaa's smile. From there, draw a long line that curves to the right and then below the tusk for the bottom of the open mouth. The left side of this line should end at the left edge of the initial circle. On the left side of the mouth, draw a small square for the tooth. To the right of the tooth, draw a curved line for the other side of the mouth and two more curved lines for the tongue.
Step 11: Draw short, curved lines above and below the tooth for the lower lip. Use the initial circle as a guide to draw Pumbaa's big chin/jaw under the mouth. Follow the basic path of the initial circle as you draw the lines that form the chin/jaw.
Step 12: Use the initial circle as a guide to draw the rest of Pumbaa's head. On either side of the head, draw small V-shaped lines for the cheekbones. Place the cheekbones right along the path of the initial circle. Add a few more lines inside the head for extra detail on the wrinkles.
Step 13: Above the eye on the left, draw a couple of curved lines for the first ear. The ears should be long and thin, and kind of leaf-shaped. On the right side of the head, draw the other ear the same way but make it a bit longer. Inside each of Pumbaa's ears, draw a couple of curved lines for the inner ear structure.
Step 14: Starting next to the ear on the left, draw Pumbaa's hair using a series of curved lines. The curved lines should end in pointy tips. Once you reach the right side of the head, make the tips bend to the right. These curved spikes represent chunks of hair. Pay attention to how far up they go and don't overlap the ear on the right. Continue to draw the curved, spike- like hair toward the right. The hair should end at the top of the body.
Step 15: Use the second line from the left under the body as a guide to draw the first front leg. Follow the guide and draw the shape of the leg around it. The top part should be wider than the bottom. Pay attention to how the leg bends at the joints. At the bottom, draw two V-shaped lines for Pumbaa's hoof.
Step 16: Use the line on the left as a guide to draw the other front leg the same way. Draw Pumbaa's leg around the guide and add the two V-shaped lines at the bottom for the hoof.
Step 17: Use the line on the right as a guide to draw the hind leg the same way was the front legs. The hind leg angles backward before moving downward. The top part of the leg goes up high along the guide for the body. Don't forget to add the small V-shaped lines at the bottom for Pumbaa's hoof! Use the last line under the body as a guide to draw the visible portion of the other front leg.
Step 18: Use the remaining lines as guides to draw the rest of the body. Simply darken the outer edges of the arc-like guide to create the shape of the body. Make the back dip down a bit. Use the long, curved line on the top, right side of the body as a guide to draw Pumbaa's tail. Draw the shape of the tail around the guide. Make the bottom part wide and the rest of it skinny. Where the guide curves, draw a series of curved, spike-like shapes for the hair on the tip. The spiky tufts of hair on the tail should curve to the right and droop down.
Step 19: For a more finished look, carefully go over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker.
Step 20: After inking Pumbaa, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser for a cleaner drawing. Use black for the hair (including the hair on the tail) and for the hooves.
Final Step: Use light brown for the Pumbaa's body but leave a circular shape around the belly blank. Now blend dark and light brown for the circular spot on the belly. Use peach for the inside of the ears and nose, and use pink for the tongue. Color the inside of the nostrils and the inside of the mouth dark brown. Use a bit of light brown for shading on Pumbaa's tusks, and then color them yellow. Use yellow for the eyes too.
